Maximum Risk is the most conventional of the three. It's a solid action movie without the over the top absurdities of Hard Target and Double Team. Van Damme plays twins, which is kind of hilarious once you realize how often he goes to that well. Also peak Natasha Henstridge, if that sort of thing appeals.

Yup! Basically the Unrated Cut is the International/European Cut.

Where I think there might be confusion is that there is a 128-minute Workprint that has been floating around for years that fans have been asking for.

The workprint actually got an official release a few months ago in France. However, it's still vhs quality as the film elements aren't believed to exist any more. Or at least no one is bothering to go look for them.

Kino was asked on social media if they were going to include it and they gave some ridiculous response about how they wouldn't want to dirty up their beautiful release with vhs quality garbage, proving once again that Kino Lorber Insider is the literal worst.

Hard Target is KL Studio Classics’ ‘90s title.
Last time I bought Hard Target was on laserdisc.

Long overdue. I thought it would be a great Criterion selection.

I bought one not too long ago, since the price was real low and I didn't figure Universal was going to do a UHD, -and I was right, they didn't.
Oh, well, I'll get the UHD anyway.

Re: UHD release announcements

Let the bitching begin about the lack of the extended cut of the first movie not being 4K.

Re: UHD release announcements

Double dip of Labyrinth coming in August.

Same 4K as the previous disc, but brand-new deleted and alternate scenes (as bonus material).

Re: UHD release announcements

Would that be the first true 4K double-dip? (not counting stuff like re-releases with the same disc, or LE and SE versions of the same movie)

The Martian is the first one that pops into my head. Batman vs. Superman is another. Ghostbusters also got a reissue with some extra deleted scenes and stuff.

Re: UHD release announcements

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed that it will debut six more of its classic films restored on 4K Ultra HD disc for the first time ever.

The “Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Volume 2” will include “The Social Network,” “Taxi Driver,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Anatomy of a Murder,” “Oliver!” and “Stripes.”

In addition to the six restored films, the set will include an exclusive Blu-ray bonus disc that will feature 20 short films from the Columbia Pictures library all presented in high definition. Curated from over 80 years of the studio’s history, this selection of shorts will showcase a wide scope of creative output across both live-action and animation mediums.

The library of short films will include “Umpa,” “The Three Stooges: Disorder In The Court,” “Charley Chase: Man Bites Lovebug,” “Color Rhapsodies: The Little Match Girl,” “Charley Chase: The Sap Takes A Wrap,” “Color Rhapsodies: Dog, Cat and Canary,” “The Ragtime Bear,” “The Wonder Gloves” “Georgie and the Dragon,” “Madeline,” “Pete Hothead,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “When Magoo Flew,” “The Man on the Flying Trapeze,” “Christopher Crumpet’s Playmate,” “Stage Door Magoo,” “April in Portugal,” “The Chubbchubbs!,” “The Early Hatchling Gets The Worm” and “Puppy!: A Hotel Transylvania Short.”

The limited-edition collector’s set will also include a hardbound 80-page book that details the making of each of the six films featured in the set. New essays from renowned writers Julie Kirgo, John Kenrick, Glenn Kenny, Michael G. McDunnah, Kayti Burt and Nev Pierce will be featured.

“Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Volume 2” will be made available on Sep. 14.

Re: UHD release announcements

I like the inclusion of the shorts. Interesting choice in main features. Wasn't Sense and Sensibility a Twilight Time title? I seem to recall a limited release on Blu-ray.

Re: UHD release announcements

I assume Taxi Driver is popular enough to get its own standalone 4K release.
