So…what’s the deal with Criterion getting these titles only to have Kino release these same ones but in 4K? Seems weird - and costly.

Okay, so it's now media formats where the rights are concerned? Lame. I know in the past it was blu ray and DVD together, but I guess now 4K is an added layer to negotiate on these deals.

It has always been that way. That's why titles like Third Man and Ran changed hands on Blu-ray. Dawn of the Dead might be one of the more infamous examples here in the United States. Maybe the bigger difference now is that Kino has been more aggressive at licensing titles and Criterion didn't jump on the new format soon enough.

All The Anime store typically ships single item via Royal Post/USPS (multiple items are usually shipped via FedEx). They definitely package their shipments very well. I would either go for early bird pre-order pricing or wait until free international S/H promo shows up. As you mentioned, S/H is expensive.
Belle US 4K release (GKIDS / Shout! Factory) will be released at end this month.
