Re: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan Director's Cut - 6/7/16
I'm not a fan of that cover art at all. In most cases, I prefer the original theatrical one sheet. The best thing about buying Kino Lorber titles is that they tend to use the original art which is far better than the "floating head" crap the hack " artists" at the studios concoct for home video releases. The more I look at it I realize I will simply remove the current disc from my box set and toss that abomination out along with the current disc and be done with it.

So this is the 1st time this director's cut has been available on BD? I haven't touched my Star Trek 2-disc DVDs in years and I own the 2-disc DVD director's edition (which this is apparently)
I have the previous 7-disc BD Original Motion Picture collection box set that I paid $60 for. It's a great set by the way. I'll probably wait until a fairly reasonable price ($15 or less) I'm in no dire rush for this. It's been a few years since I touched that box set anyways.

I still wish the powers that be would restore DS9 and release it on blu but there's not much I can do about that.

Me too. I find that I either really like their stuff, or really despise their stuff. There is no middle ground. I also don't like how much of their artwork looks exactly the same to me.

I feel no need to replace the 2-Disc Director's Edition on DVD that I already have. If the movie disc rots, then I'll bite.

I don't give a wild toss about Bill Hunt and The Digital Bits.
But damn. Which amateur did they hire for that hideous cover-arts? A blind man who's better at darts and parcheesi? Why not 4K remasters for the rest of the Star Trek movies?

That's right!
Just want 4K Remasters for The Motionless Picture, The Search for Spork, The Voyage Home, The Final Frontier, and The Undiscovered Country. Course all with official versions and Seamless Branching.
Paramount are lazy for re-releasing the same discs but different packaging.

If I get this, I'll just stick it in the blu steelbook I already have, which has the best art of the movie for the cover, it's original poster:

It is remastered and the most complete version out there.
It's from a specialty soundtrack label, so you can't order it from Amazon (well, you can, but you'd be paying a very inflated price from a third party for it). In my opinion, the best places to order it are either intrada.com or screenarchives.com , where you can buy it at its actual $20 list price (plus shipping).
(You can get nice remastered and expanded versions of nearly all the Star Trek movie soundtracks from the same places. Unfortunately the ST:TMP one is temporarily out of print, but it is supposedly coming back in print eventually.)

Part of me says to wait until it hits $10, but it's the Wrath of Khan, so there's no question that it's definitely worth $15+tax to me.

I would not be surprised to see it released to include some movie cash for the new Star Trek later this summer. I will wait and see if that happens and if not, wait for the eventual 10 buck price.
