Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice - 7/19

The 3rd biggest movie of all time!! The one we all saw 4 times in theaters! Up for pre-order!!!

Amazon already put up the street date, so I'm guessing the home sales are really important to Warners for this. We get blu, blu 3D, 4k, and I guess DVD. But who cares about DVD. Artwork to come later. But digitalbits put up the 4k artwork. Probably temp art, but looks pretty official.

That's a joke right? It only opened today domestically.

Yeah, a joke. And I'm a lousy ass prognosticator. So I may be off a little on where this movie lands. And how many times people will be stomaching this one.

Yeah...I am sneaking out today to watch it in 3D. But even the previews make it look like a muddled mess.

Don't forget the big ass statue edition for $130 that will be on clearance during Black Friday. You would think for that money, they would at least include the 3D or 4K versions as well.

So there's a double-dip happening then since this does not appear to be the R-rated cut, right?

Re: Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice - July 16th

No, it looks like the Amazon listing has two separate versions listed in the package:

Ultimate Edition Blu-ray + Theatrical Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD UltraViolet Combo Pack

That Batman pose is weird. It's like he's doing Hamelt. "To be or not to be?"

I have just become addicted to steelbooks so I will see if Best Buy has one.

I hope they use the art shown in the photos above as the actual artwork.

Man of Steel had the ugliest cover ever

Off topic but why is this movie coming out now In theaters in March and not during Summer blockbuster season?

They originally had it booked for May, but it was the same date as Cap 3, and they backed off

Further proof that a tentpole movie can have a big opening weekend any time of the year. Hopefully studios will see this and continue the trend of opening such films outside of summer and the Thanksgiving/Christmas period.

Re: Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice - July 16th

The disc is supposed to have two cuts of the movie.

This time of year is typically "off-season" for theaters, I figured someone would try putting a bigger movie out now rather than having them all come out during summer.

The 3D Man of Steel cover is better since it at least has Superman close-up (I have both since I got the 2D version for review here than bought the 3D.)

Hope that becomes more common.

It will also be cool to rent and a Summer type movie at home in July the most boring month of the year.

It will have to, won't it?

With the limited number of IMAX screens available, they sort of have to spread these big franchise movies around the calendar. We're already looking at 2-3 Marvel Cinematic Universe films, two DC Expanded Universe films, one or two X-Men films, and one Star Wars film per year for the foreseeable future. Then add in the less frequently released franchise movies like Transformers, Star Trek, and POTC, as well as big one-off films, and you're looking at at least a dozen IMAX features each year.

Read the insight from this new Deadline piece about Batman v Superman's box office. WB wanted relatively no competition at the box office for several weeks.

http://deadline.com/2016/03/batman-v...ds-1201726300/

Fourth-highest global box office opening ever at $424 million. It lost to The Avengers in domestic gross for the weekend but beat it in worldwide gross.

hanshotfirst1138 03-27-16 06:15 PM

Given that the rumored budget was around $400 million, I'm sure they want to recoup every possible cent.

250 million was the budget. I keep hearing that 150 more for marketing but I've never bought Hollywood's overinflated "marketing" costs. If you really think a major studio is stupid enough to pay 150 million in marketing costs then I have a bridge to sell you.

hanshotfirst1138 03-28-16 09:32 AM

It certainly didn't look it. Say what you will about Peter Jackson, but the man can get every penny of a budget up on the screen.

I guess we can include special edition in the thread. Via comingsoon.net.

And yes Snyder, we sure as hell know you're not Cameron. Not by any stretch.

Batman v Superman Ultimate Cut Release Date and Details

Combined with the $170.1 million from North American theaters, the worldwide total for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is now already up to $424.1 million, and whether you loved the film or not, a big portion of that paying audience has to be curious about what an additional 30 minutes of footage will bring to the table once Zack Snyder’s extended cut hits stores. According to Forbes, the Batman v Superman Ultimate Cut will get its Blu-ray and DVD release on July 16 (pre-order your copy!), only a few weeks before the next DC Extended Universe movie Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5.

Additionally, Snyder has spoken to Collider about what we can expect on that disc, and what the R rating implies in terms of the level of violence.

“We call it the Ultimate Cut because to me it’s a deeper dive into that world and there are storylines in there that get fleshed out by the longer version,” Snyder says. “I would say that we didn’t really take out much of the Superman/Batman story because I felt like, you know that’s kind of the movie, but there was some sort of interstitial stuff that surrounds the story, that kind of finishes some of the ideas that we trimmed back, and I think that’s what you get. There’s a little bit of action, there’s a little bit of violence that we trimmed out for the MPAA that we put back. The Batman warehouse rescue, there’s a couple shots of Doomsday that were too intense. Then there’s a little bit longer ending, sort of the ending sequence, and the opening of the movie, the North Africa sequence is really much different. It was in there until very recently, so all of it’s finished. It was really just a function of time, to be honest. Because the movie’s long now, long-ish—I don’t think it’s long, but when you get over two and a half hours the studio starts getting nervous. I’m not James Cameron who’s like ‘No it’s three hours, suck it!’, which is cool by the way. I just wanted to try and get it to a length that is work-able.”

The Zack Snyder-directed film stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from Man of Steel, joined by Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch, as well as Scoot McNairy, Callan Mulvey and Tao Okamoto.
