I'm probably just going to grab the regular release if the Target extra features are online only.

So what the hell is going on? I just looked at the Target Facebook page and read the comments from yesterday. This is the latest response.

Yes, apparently some of the Target workers didn't understand the question. They thought they were being asked about the BONUS disc and NOT the 20 minutes of exclusive content...so they told a bunch of people over the last couple of days it was a bonus disc.

I'll just get whatever is cheapest and in regular bluray packaging. I usually don't purchase blurays during the first week anymore, but I may have to break that rule for this movie.

I still hope for 3D release early in a region free territory...

The Target exclusive stuff doesn't sound great enough to deal with this cluster. Yeah, will go with cheapest/closest. And I'm glad I got over this steelbook thing long ago. Just want the movie now and will worry about extras when the boxset is released.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016

I'm also worried the Target box, as nice as it looks it might be, might just be cheap cardboard with the discs in those really tight sleeves with the discs underneath (like the way Black Sails, House of Cards, and other Blu-ray sets are designed) so it's impossible to get them out without getting fingerprints all over the discs.

In my opinion, the standard release (or maybe the Wal-Mart exclusive if you like that BB-8 slipcover) might be the best option here.

I pre-ordered from Target since I have a $5 giftcard. That's the only reason why I'm going this route.

Look, it's not like this title is going to sell out in a few hours. I can wait till that morning to see what exactly is in the Target set, then at lunchtime I can hit either Target or Best Buy for the best one.

I usually go right after work the day of the release as they will get a crap load in and will probably get its own stand in the front as soon as you walk in.

I wouldn't count on either exclusive being unlimited. If I was to guess, I would say they steelbook might go first given Best Buy's track record with new release steelbooks often being in limited supply.

I don't see the harm in pre-ordering either (or both) exclusives to improve the chances of getting one, and returning the copy that isn't wanted. In the case of the Target exclusive you will also save money in the end given the $5 GC offer.

I dunno, these steelbooks aren't the same case as Marvel. And there's still a ton of all 6 Star Wars steelbooks in stores. I'm not seeing Episode 7 steelbooks running out.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the run of TFA steelbooks will be anywhere near the number of Ep I-6 steelbooks produced. Plus I think it's safe to say the interest for TFA is far more than yet another release of the older films. Even a relatively huge run of TFA steelbooks could sell out in the first week.

The I-VI Steelbooks are general releases, which they printed millions of. The VII steelbook is a limited store exclusive. Not the same thing.

Though there are occasional exclusive runs that are huge. I still see Age of Ultron Steelbooks at Best Buy and Minion-shaped Minions Steelbooks at Target. Most of the others are gone by Tuesday evening.

It's not like they can't come out with different steelbooks in the future.

I pre ordered the steelbook and have it shipped to the local BB for pickup. Its currently $29.99 though the guy i talked to last week in store told me that when/if the price goes down, they'll refund the difference

About as exclusive as the Zavvi one. Disney will make sure there's plenty.

They will make sure that there's plenty of product so that everyone that wants to buy the movie is able to. I don't know that it's a given that they will necessarily make sure that there's plenty of this particular version. Not sure that it benefits Disney in any way to make sure that there's plenty of steelbooks.

Don't most Zavvi steelbooks sell out? If they do, I'm not sure if I understand the point of bringing those into the discussion.

They usually do sell out. I was pointing out that this Best Buy steelbook isn't exclusive as the same design is available elsewhere.
