I have the Target exclusive Spectre, Into Darkness (Which I may sell, if anyone wants it, when I buy The Experience), and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. They were all disc-based.

I had (but don't have) the Target exclusive version of The Good Dinosaur. I redeemed the code on DMR instead of DMA and as a result, I lost all the exclusive bonus material and I'm screwed now. I emailed Disney and am still waiting for a response. And unlike Spectre or Jack Ryan, The Good Dinosaur came from the same studio as SW The Force Awakens.

Wait, what? DMR instead of DMA?

Oh, never mind, you mean redeeming it through the app instead of the site. You know you can go back and redeem the same code through the app again to unlock the bonus content, right? I had to do the same thing with The Good Dinosaur and Inside Out.

Wrong. I mostly redeem through DMR website as that unlocks the points and the DMA HD copy. In this case, however, if you go through the DMR website first, then your HD copy shows in DMA, but not the bonus content. You can't go back and unlock the content later; the code says it's been redeemed.
There's a two-sided info sheet that says as much -- in the back side only.

Weird, it let me use both codes on the app on my phone again after originally redeeming them through the website. And the bonus content is now listed under Exclusive Video in the app under the movies. Did you try again recently?

Well, I'll be -- the website didn't work, but the app (which I didn't even realize had the capability to redeem codes) did indeed unlock that exclusive bonus content. Thanks!

I'm guessing BB will have a shit ton of the steelbooks in store (or at least more than usual), but I'd just as well want to avoid whatever crowd there may be, so I'll just order it from the site rather than go to the store.

(pretty sure the Target bonus content will be off-disc/online)

Target sent out an e-mail to those who already pre-ordered the regular edition offering to upgrade them to the exclusive, and it explicitly mentions an exclusive bonus disc. It's shown upthread.

Not sure if I trust that e-mail fully (could be that whoever wrote it was just making an assumption) but it points toward a disc. We won't know for sure until someone gets their hands on one, or it's officially confirmed.

The $5 gift card promotion starts again this Sunday. It's mentioned in their ad.

I pre-ordered the Best Buy steelbook the moment pre-orders went up on Best Buy's site. Knowing how fast Marvel steelbooks go, I didn't want to miss out.

And yes, I will be double dipping as all signs point to a full-blown special edition release coming out towards the holidays.

Content over case for me. I'll probably be ordering the Target edition once the $5 GC comes back in play Sunday.

How does Target ship stuff out?

I might pick up The Force Awakens and Game of Thrones season five from their website, but feat they're going to put them in an envelope or something else and they'll get the shit beat out of them by the time they get to my house.

Bubble mailer. I would imagine Game of Thrones will ship in a box though.

I'd prefer that over the ugly Steelbook.
That what's it looks like to me too. Like steelbooks, they are very susceptible to damage, but most cool packaging is that way.

I'll probably try to score at least one of these in store in addition to the one being mailed to me. Then return one of them with the store receipt. Hopefully there will be as many of these as there has been of those Hunger Games exclusives.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016

There was some back and forth on Facebook the last couple of days on whether the TARGET bonus content was disc or digital. Some Target reps were saying it was a disc, some were saying it was digital. They posted this today:

Thanks for the opportunity to clear things up for you. The exclusive content will be digital content. We apologize for any confusion and hope that this information will clear things up for you.
The bonus content is supposed to include a never-before-seen interview with Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, plus a look at the weaponry in the movie.

In that case I'm just grab the standard edition from whoever has it the cheapest. No interest in digital content or steelbooks.

Fuck Best Buy and Target and their pillaging of physical media, I'm just gonna wait for the ST box set and stream it in the meantime if I feel like watching it.

Hopefully down the road at some point there will be an ep 1-9 box set with the unaltered OT.

Someone asked them again on Facebook to verify - since they spent about three days telling people it was an extra disc, and they literally posted this to a guy two minutes ago:

Thanks for asking! Yes, this is correct. The exclusive content will be digital content, and not on a disc. We apologize for any confusion.
So NO extra disc...digital online content.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - April 5th, 2016

TFA = Disney

Target seems to have this "bonus content" system working really well though DMA and will poissibly never go back to bonus discs for Disney releases. I would prefer a disc, but since I log all my Disney movies on DMA anyway, I don't mind this practice as much as I would if it was UV.

Ugh, really don't want to deal with digital content like that.

I may grab the steelbook if the price seems ok, or maybe just a plain version from somewhere else.

Depends on your setup and your options. Can you connect your TV or receiver to an external device like a tablet or laptop? Should I want to, I believe I could get one of our iPads to pair with my receiver via Bluetooth.
