Netflix. I just finished the first season. Blu will probably be a tad nicer looking, but the HD stream is pretty fantastic.

All 9 seasons are on Amazon Prime streaming as well, but I think it might be SD only, which is odd if Netflix has HD streams available.

FWIW even the early seasons were being presented 16:9 on Netflix so I suspect they will be this way on disc.

Heck, I used to buy those X-Files VHS sets with six episodes on three cassettes, so having a full season in chronological order was like a dream.

I don't remember the pricing for the first Star Trek complete seasons.
I too remember those two episode dvds fo the original Star Trek. I was more speaking of the Next Generation Season sets that came out in the early 2000s i think. I seem to remember them being rather expensive and between $100-150.

I will have to check them out. Thanks for the info.

There may be original extras, but there won't be any new ones with the cast...both David Duchovny and Mitch Pileggi (at a Con here in Pittsburgh last month) said they knew nothing about the new Blu-ray set and hadn't been asked to contribute anything.

They had better not crop the early seasons, or no sale from me. Why is it so hard to present everything in proper OAR? Early seasons in 4:3 and later seasons in 16:9?

This is infuriating. Does anyone know for sure that all seasons will be 16:9? Even if they do crop them, I'm sure there will be hoards of defenders saying "it won't look too bad!" Bullshit. OAR = OAR and should be respected.

Yeah, they were expensive because they were Star Trek, but I don't recall just how much.

Generally speaking, the 16x9 versions actually have more image than the 4x3. There's no cropping going on. I'm not arguing for 16x9, I just want to make sure everyone understands what we're dealing with.

Old seasons nothing, but It's pretty much a certainty that Carter, Duchovny, Anderson and Pileggi will be prominently interviewed for the extras for season 10.

I'll stick with Netflix, their HD stream of the show looks pretty good, even for the early seasons.

Not that I don't want The X-Files on Blu-ray, but that's a nice chunk of change and that set looks like it will be ginormous. Maybe by Black Friday next year it'll be down to $100 or something.

Yeah, I've only watched my DVD sets maybe once. No need to double dip for how much I spent already. Netflix will do for now.

Will buy (when the price drops significantly). I doubt I'll ever spend more on a blu ray set than the $150 I dropped on the Bond 50.

Re: X-Files Collector's Box Set - 12/8/15

No surprise by the reaction of a few here that they can't afford or simply don't have the shelf space to purchase a big box set like this?

Considering how backed up so many here are with their viewing inventory, this would probably go into someone's closet sealed for many months or even years.

I have the DVD box set that came out a few years ago that I've barely touched. I just don't see myself double dipping right now for something I probably won't even watch right away for the foreseeable future.

It's hard to say no to these cool sets of stuff I've been wanting to years, but I just have to be realistic of the time I have.

There's a thread on the TV board that has comparisons of the original v. new HD images. I think it may change your mind, they look great and only add to it, imho.

And they are or will be on Netflix soon enough. I think the first couple of seasons are in HD on Netflix, as well.

I also have the entire series on DVD and outside of them redoing them like they did the Star Trek series' I won't be getting them unless they go all out.

Re: X-Files Collector's Box Set - 12/8/15

I probably won't get around to watching this for months or even years but I will be buying it upon release. I can finally give my 9-season DVD collection (which I likely paid close to $1000 for) away.

The X-Files were the priciest TV DVDs for many years.

I managed to find seasons 2-6 for about $30 per set. These were the fat packages, not the thin reissues.

Re: X-Files Collector's Box Set - 12/8/15

I bought the complete series boxed set for around $100 bucks about seven or eight years ago; the big one with the movie and all of the bonus discs.

I'm not in any hurry to get this on blu-ray. I'll likely wait until I can pick up the early seasons cheap,on blu, until there's a good deal on the box.

Is it this HD Talk thread, with shots of the German HD broadcast?

$150 is a great price for all nine seasons and is priced decently enough that holiday sales should be big.

I didn't really watch the show as a kid, it was pretty cool though. I only saw the first film, which I did very much like.

So the show... I'm guessing it would look good, right? Depending on what they used and whatnot. Not really educated on the technical nature of the show.
