X-Files Collector's Box Set - 12/8/15

Re: X-Files Collector's Box Set - 12/8/15
You can put me in the pro-Doggett camp as well. I can't really say I have much of an opinion on Reyes as she wasn't fully integrated until season 9 and I've mostly expunged that season from my memory. I actually really enjoy season 8 and I seem to be in the minority in that I thought "the search for Mulder" was a good hook for the season. It gave the show a new narrative drive which had been lacking since the conspiracy was blown up in season 6. I seem to recall having some problems with exactly how the storyline played out, but it's been a long time since I watched any of those episodes.

Is it confirmed that the complete set has nothing exclusive, outside the box of course? Tempted by the flash sale price of $9.50 per season, but don't want to miss any cool bonuses.

There was nothing in the FOX press release for the boxed set that indicated there was any bonus disc or additional extras that can't be found in the individual season sets. I'm about 95% sure you're safe.

Re: X-Files Collector's Box Set - 12/8/15
I ordered season 1-6 and had every intention in placing an order for 7-9. But i first started skimming through some of season 7, and realized and remembered alot of these episodes. Duchovny is pretty much on autopilot by then. Sure there are some good episodes sprinkled in. But not enough to make me plunge in for 7-9.
I will be happy with just 1-6, and both movies. I know im probably in the minority as most seem to want every season. I almost just got 1-5, but 6 is still a very good season.

I placed an order with seasons 1-6 and a few other things, just getting to the $150 threshold. Came back later for a second order, and the promo code worked, but after adjusting my cart a few times it said I've used the code too many times and denied it. Oh well, one order was enough for now, I'm sure seasons 7-9 will hit that price again someday.

I'll bite next time Fox has the series for $150 or less. One of my most favorite series of all times. I haven't seen all the eps and I've been wanting to do a series run, watching the extras as I go through the seasons. You know, even at the $300 price, the series is 148 hours. That's about $2 per hour. A regular movie ticket is $5 per hour. I view that as worthwhile entertainment.
$85.50 for the 9 individual seasons....$65 is a lot for the box May go the individual seasons route next flash sale.

Based on the pricing for the individual seasons, I think we'll see a lot of low sale prices for the box set before too long. With nothing exclusive to the box, they basically have no choice given only so many of the customers are too stupid to figure out the better pricing option.

$56 and change for six seasons. Can't complain at all. Especially when I thought that the only way to get all (set) or most of the seasons would cost around $200 when this was first announced.

Pre-ordered Seasons 1-9 of The X-files on Blu; really pumped for this release. I was a big fan of the show during the first 1-2 seasons; I was in college at the time, and remember taping & watching many of the episodes when they were aired. The show was an amazing combination of horror, sci-fi-, thriller, and suspense, while still being completely unique. I've got a lot of nostalgia associated with the '90's, and this show is definitely the best TV series from that decade.
Long after the show left the air, I watched the entire series via DVD, but never owned the sets since the PQ was somewhat shaky in the first several seasons. However, I'm sure the Blu's will be much better than those DVD's.
Yes, it's interesting that getting the Blu seasons individually will be cheaper than getting the stupid boxed set. I prefer the plastic Blu cases anyway vs. the large box; I've gotten boxed sets in the past, and in many cases the cardboard is shoddy, and I also don't like how many of these cardboard cases don't properly hold the Blu's (i.e., the SW Saga boxed set, the Aliens boxed set, etc.). The plastic Blu cases aesthetically look better than a crummy cardboard box anyway - even if they're Eco cases.
I feel the same way - though in my case I liked both Seasons 8 & 9. I actually thought Robert Patrick & A. Gish were excellent as Agent(s) Doggett & Reyes, and they were definitely not just "copies" of Mulder & Scully; these last two seasons were far superior to Seasons 6 & 7. They definitely brought a fresh perspective to the series, and Season 8 especially had some great "monster of the week" episodes that I felt were almost an homage to the first 2-3 seasons of the show. I actually think Seasons 8-9 produced some of the best episodes of the entire series.

To clarify for those that didn't pick up on it, it appears that in this case the complete series box uses the exact same individual season blu-ray cases within the larger box. Depending on your preferences that is either an awesome thing, or just makes the box set that much more worthless.

I'll wait until the individual sets are cheap or the box set is around the $120 price point.

I checked over at bluray.com and they now have an over 25 page thread complaining about The X-Files not getting a 4X3 ratio release on blu. I guess they seem to forget they are still on dvd.

I'm waiting to see what the impact will be of the 4x3 episodes being changed to 16x9. Not always a bad thing.
Have they totally ruled out a similar 11th season if this 10th goes well?

People will really need to tune in, though. It will need 24: Live Another Day-like numbers, at the least.

I also wonder how much of that is true. It's not like Fox is bursting with other series to put it's place if it only gets a very average response.

Even the ratings for 24: Live Another Day couldn't guarantee that show another season. Fox hasn't ruled out doing another one of those, but hasn't committed to one either.

I imagine future seasons of the X-Files will depend on the schedules of Duchovny and Anderson. Though I believe most feel they will be cameo roles going forward if the show did get picked up for another season.
