Yeah. Making your TV got B&W isn't the same as a film presented in B&W like The Mist and such. It has to be made in that color scheme in post which means that you tweak this and that for whatever desired effect you want. The Mist rocked all kinds of awesome w/ it.

Yeah, it wasn't bad, but I thought the CGI stuff didn't look right in b/w. It just seemed sort of jarring and unnatural

Didn't really acre for the Walking Dead pilot in b/w.

That's funny, because I thought the CGI/monsters in Mist looked bad in color, but looked much better, more appropriate in B&W.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Sept. 1)

I thought The Mist looked okay in b&w, but not great. The b&w version of The Walking Dead pilot looked better.

The problem I have with most modern and/or converted b&w is that the contrast always seems weak. It's like people keep thinking of b&w films they watched decades ago on tv before people knew how to restore and present them properly. You can look at the gorgeous Chaplin blu-rays or even modern dvds of old shows like Andy Griffith or Leave It To Beaver and see how much better contrast and deeper blacks they have than people remember. B&W in films like Pleasantville look more like Grey & White and picture depth really suffers.

I really want to import that B/W cut of Fury Road but essentially I'd be paying $55-60+ for a single cut of the film, as I own the other films

Yeah, I can't justify paying that much and I loved MM: FR.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Sept. 1)

I don't own any of the MM films and I just wanted the B&W version of Fury Road. I was waiting for a double dip of just that movie with the color and B&W versions.

I guess I'll keep on waiting, maybe I'll find this boxset used and cheap down the road.

More like $49 shipped but I understand. I don't own Road Warrior or Thunderdome. I do have the Shout Factory version of Mad Max, though.

Sorry, I was just estimating.

For those (like yourself) who don't own any of the previous films, it's a no-brainer and a great deal. I already own BDs of The Road Warrior and Beyond The Thunderdome. I also own 3 versions of Mad Max (DVD, 2 BDs) and the Steelbook for Fury Road. For me it's a tough sell but I'm probably in the minority here.

As Milo mentioned, I hope the set gets cheaper down the line (if the B/W isn't announced in the States) and I can pick it up for a bit less.

Will be jealous of those who get to watch the B/W cut though

Just got a notice from Amazon Germany saying that they've pushed the release date back a bit to November 9 - 16.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Sept. 1)

the only way Warner's would give me an incentive to purchase another edition would be to include the 3D disc (as Sony is wising up to his type of release) and new extras

Is the version Germany is getting being considered the special edition? Any idea if it's going to the States, too?

I'm under the assumption that this is stateside art.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Sept. 1)

The German release doesn't ship until November anyway. There's still time to cancel. I'm going to keep it open on the off chance it's cheaper than the U.S. version. The extras are the same I think.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Sept. 1)

If you guys are interested and want an almost 2 month lead - VUDU has the Black and Chrome edition of Fury Road for sale (HDX). It's $13.99. Amazon and iTunes have it, as well.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Sept. 1)

If you live in or near San Francisco, CA there is an interesting Screening/Event being put on at the 'Another Hole In The Head' Film Festival.

November 7th @9pm

Mad Max: Silent Fury Black & White
Electronic Live Scoring by Firmaments

Wondering if it's just going to be the Firmaments playing with no audio track playing?

So if it was released in 3D and others would like the option to buy it in that format, it negatively impacts you in what way?

I watched it yesterday morning and it was pretty damn phenomenal. I don't like the color version any less but the B&W was cool.

Sounds good, just too bad you can't rent it on Vudu. Seems you can on Amazon. Why not Vudu as well?
