Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber and Olive Films Blu-Ray Thread

I only have Hannibal on the old 2 disc DVD, so I'll definitely consider the 4K if it's not too expensive. Considering Kino is a small label, I'll anticipate it will be a minimum of $25 to start.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber and Olive Films Blu-Ray Thread

Roger Moore’s finest hour . . . already on Blu-Ray in Australia but it’s pretty barren. Hopefully Kino springs for some supplements and uses one of the original poster designs on the sleeve.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber and Olive Films Blu-Ray Thread

Happy to see William Hurt in THE DOCTOR get a quality Blu-Ray release, but honestly... when will anyone wrestle CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD away from Paramount and get it out in Blu-Ray? THE DOCTOR disc even gets a commentary from Randa Haines, director of both of these terrific films.

The existing Blu-ray only contains the Director's Cut. It looks like this one will also include the theatrical cut. Not sure that's really worth a double-dip for someone who already has the old one, but the movie is probably more timely now than ever.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber and Olive Films Blu-Ray Thread

and . . .

Coming May 21st!

VON RICHTHOFEN AND BROWN (1971)
with optional English subtitles
• Chivalry in Warfare: Corman, Von Richthofen and Brown
• Theatrical Trailer

Color 97 Minutes 1.85:1 Rated PG-13

The sky’s the limit for adventure! Two of history’s most fabled flyboys square off in daring, acrobatic duels of death in Von Richthofen and Brown, a high-flying tale of famous battles and infamous daredevils. Baron Manfred von Richthofen (John Phillip Law, Death Rides a Horse), Germany’s legendary Red Baron, is an aristocratic knight of the skies. But his chivalrous sense of honor doesn’t mean he’s merciful—some eighty pilots have lost their lives to this steel-willed ace of aces. In contrast, Canadian wheat farmer Roy Brown (Don Stroud, Search and Destroy) couldn’t care less about honor. He lives, the enemy dies—in any way Brown can make it happen. So, when these two very different men go head-to-head in a winner-take-all showdown, it’s a swooping, bullet-filled confrontation that puts their skill—and their courage—to the ultimate test. The stellar cast includes Barry Primus (Avalanche), Corin Redgrave (When Eight Bells Toll), Hurd Hatfield (The Picture of Dorian Gray), Stephen McHattie (Jesse Stone: Stone Cold) and Ferdy Mayne (The Fearless Vampire Killers). Wonderfully shot by Michael Reed (On Her Majesty’s Secret Service), with a screenplay by Joyce Hooper Corrington (The Omega Man) and John William Corrington (Boxcar Bertha). Top-notch direction by legendary filmmaker Roger Corman (The Secret Invasion, Target: Harry, Tales of Terror).

Coming May 28th on DVD and Blu-ray!

ARABIAN ADVENTURE (1979)
with optional English subtitles
• NEW Audio Commentary by director Kevin Connor
• Theatrical Trailer

Color 98 Minutes 1.85:1 Rated G

The evil Caliph Alquazar (Christopher Lee, Scream and Scream Again) has his soul imprisoned in a mirror. The only thing now capable of defeating him is the magical Rose of Elil. And so Alquazar recruits the adventurer Hasan (Oliver Tobias, The Stud), who claims to be a prince, to go and obtain the Rose of Elil, promising Hasan the hand of Princess Zuleira (Emma Samms, TV’s Dynasty) in return. Joined by young rogue Majeed (Puneet Sira) and his pet monkey, Hasan fights the perils on the Island of Elil to complete the quest, unaware that all that awaits him at the end is Alquazar’s treachery. Directed by Kevin Connor (The Land That Time Forgot) and co-starring Milo O'Shea (Barbarella), Peter Cushing (At the Earth’s Core), Capucine (The Pink Panther), Mickey Rooney (Ambush Bay) and John Ratzenberger (TV’s Cheers).

Black Moon Rising was the most recent movie to be issued on CED videodisc.

Guess I should get around to watching my Nixon laserdisc, since the forthcoming blu-ray will include the theatrical cut. Got the laserdisc because that was the only way to get that til now.

I have an old DVD of Black Moon Rising, which I haven't seen in ages. I don't recall much about the movie other than it had a cool score by Carpenter and a nifty futuristic car that Jones drove.

It's a decent cast for an 80's B movie. With a re-mastered picture, it might be worth getting. I know the old 80's print look horrendously dated now.

Saw this decades ago, then again recently on the DVD and still can't say it's a favorite. Seemed dated even at the time, but those extras are awfully compelling and most appear to be created for this edition (except for the vintage making-of and trailers). And since it's Kino and not, say, Shout, it will actually go on sale for an appealing price down the road.

Incidentally, it appears the Kino edition of BMR is identical to the Arrow UK edition, except for Arrow's usual booklet:

Interesting selection of releases. I might pick up The Silent Partner, though I own it already. The previous release had disgracefully hamfisted cover artwork.
