^I would have preferred "Cloak & Dagger" to be released. Where the hell is that movie? I must have watched it 100 times on HBO and actually saw it in the theater as well.
I remember the VHS cover for The Quest but I don't think I ever saw it which is strange since it was right in my wheelhouse back then with his movies C&D and E.T.

A friend of mine bought the Australian "Buck Rogers" set, but he couldn't access the theatrical version because it was in PAL (I assume). I've always had a soft spot for it's mild innuendo and kitschy title sequence that was removed when it was shown on Television.

I've got the Aussie set. Didn't have any problems with the TV pilot. My Oppo and PJ can both handle PAL if need be, but I don't recall needing to switch any settings in the Oppo for just the pilot.
While the Aussie set still serves me just fine, I'm very happy to see the theatrical version being released separately!
It will be great to finally get to revisit that in it's OAR, something I haven't seen since the Spring of '79.

(I assume) The 3 ep pilot on the Aussie set is in 1080p HD, just like the regular season episodes. He should just need to get around the region restriction and be good to go.
It's possible it's 1080i, but I don't think that should present any problems...but maybe someone can correct me on that score.
I will try to check tonight (the set is buried in storage right now).

OH. Ok, gotcha now.
Now that you say that I vaguely recall the OAR theatrical version actually is on the set in standard def- but as you said, PAL.
Yup. That would be the problem then.

a few notable upcoming releases:
I might get Play Misty for Me. That's an underrated Eastwood movie. It was basically the original Fatal Attraction.

And two of those have references to laserdiscs in them. But what good are they- you can't record on 'em!

And I feel sorry for the funny/smart-aleck maid more than anyone in the film.
The Bustin' Loose artwork is still timely...sadly.

Runaway Train is coming to BD on March 16th. This has been regarded as the best movie from the Cannon Films library. It's also based on a Kurosawa screenplay.

"BRAND NEW 2K MASTER"? So it's not the 2K master that Twilight Time used?

That commentary is from the Twilight Time disc, which included a trailer as the only other extra (if you don't count an MGM 90th Anniversary promo spot), so I'm certainly curious what "and more!" will be. A lot of the principals are still kicking around for interviews, surely: Roberts, Voight, De Mornay, Konchalovskiy. It would be cool if they could also get supporting players like Kyle Heffner, Tiny Lister and (of course) Danny Trejo.

For three men the Civil War wasnt hell it was practice! By far the most ambitious, unflinchingly graphic and stylistically influential western ever made, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is a classic actioner shot through with a volatile mix of myth and realism. Screen legend Clint Eastwood (A Fistful of Dollars) returns as The Man with No Name, this time teaming with two gunslingers to pursue a cache of $200,000 and letting no one, not even warring factions in a civil war, stand in their way. From sun-drenched panoramas to bold hard close-ups, exceptional camerawork captures the beauty and cruelty of the barren landscape and the hardened characters who stride unwaveringly through it. Hailed as the best directed movie of all time by Quentin Tarantino, this epic masterpiece was directed by the great Sergio Leone (Once Upon a Time in the West) and co-stars Lee Van Cleef (For a Few Dollars More) as Angel Eyes and Eli Wallach (The Magnificent Seven) in the role of Tuco. Music by legendary composer Ennio Morricone (Death Rides a Horse).

Didn't Kino make a big thing a while back specifically to explain why it wouldn't release a UHD of this? That doesn't mean I'm not excited by the news; I just thought it was resolved this wouldn't go UHD. Maybe Kino is seeing how well some of its rivals have done with its genre titles on UHD.
