Watched Hell to Pay yesterday and agree it's one of the best DC Animated movies, period. Probably does't hurt that they didn't hold back on the violence, and effects of violence in this one. The first DC Animated movie to actually earn it's R rating!
Given that Gaslight was also quite good, I'm really looking forward to the new Superman entry. But having made the mistake with The Dark Knight Returns, I will not be buying each individual entry if they split them into two releases. Figuring it's a given that they will release the combined entry down the like just like they did the TDKR. I did like that it tied into a previous movie. |
Re: DC Animated Universe Films
I find it far worse when a film about sex and violence contains very little of either. There are plenty of other moves not rated R if people are going to criticize actual R rated content as being gratuitous.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films
I'm glad I rented Batman Ninja from our library before I opened my copy. Not my cup of tea. I'm still glad I saw it, but not a movie I would watch again.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films
Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay...was so much fun. loved the headshots by Deadshot and the violence was fine. didn't really see the graphic nudity, but fun movie and loved the twists and turns.

The Death of Superman coming August 7th

Re: DC Animated Universe Films
I liked Batman Ninja. I only occasionally watch anime, but I dug the style. Not sure I'd watch it again, but I enjoyed the ride.

I know there were a few posts about Death of Superman already but I was wondering if anyone knows if there will be a steelbook.

Did I read that this will be releases in two parts like The Dark Knight Returns? Which means there could possibly be a release that combines the two parts down the road like there was for The Dark Knight Returns. |
Re: DC Animated Universe Films
Someone leaked the Death of Superman about a month ago and word-of-mouth is very positive. It's supposedly much, much better than the attempt from ten years ago.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films
That's a fantastic deal. But dammit, I still have half of those sitting on my shelf mostly unwatched.
So why am I desperately trying to convince myself not to buy this dang thing?!?!? |
Re: DC Animated Universe Films
I bought it.
Had some credit card rewards points as well, which took it down to $68.00. Pretty cool collection and has a 2 hour bonus disc as well. I think I own maybe 4 or 5 of them, but the price was too hard to pass up on. All these movies will probably be on the new DC Universe streaming service this Fall, but I want to support a physical collection like this. |
Re: DC Animated Universe Films
There is no Digital code or codes. As long as these can be VUDU D2D for $2 each, then another $60 and you've got UV &/or MA of all 30 as well.

Damn, down to $100 on Amazon for the DOTD. $3.33 per movie.
https://smile.amazon.com/Universe-An...7390_292887780 <$5 per film was fine with me, but now this offsets the cost of 1-2 keep cases, to replace the lousy cardboard packaging. :) |
Re: DC Animated Universe Films
I want to bite but man, what a crappy collection of extras for the set.
|
Re: DC Animated Universe Films
I managed to sell off about 16 discs at Book Off today which included about 5 or 6 of the movies in the collection (DVD and BD)
I got a little over $30 so that kind of helps off set the cost of the set for me. I'm leaning towards subscribing to DC Universe, so IMO that would be the "Digital" version of these movies as I assume the entire collection will be available in it. |
Re: DC Animated Universe Films
My DC set arrived yesterday.
I see now on Amazon that it's back-ordered a few months. I noticed that it's limited edition of 20,000 sets. Anyways, It's kind of big and bulky. If you don't like these big sets and have limited shelf space, it's definitely not for you. The discs are packaged like a giant book, similar to the Shout Bruce Lee set, and packed in cardboard sleeves/pages. |

I don't hate it, but the major draw for it is the art, and I can't see them keeping that art style and animating it well.

Yeah, i'm curious how they'll do the art style. But yeah, a big appeal for me is being a big Jim Lee fan.
Since this is a movie the budget is obviously bigger. So, hopefully they do it in Jim Lee's style. |

I know about the Fatal Five. I own almost all of their original appearances in Adventure and the later Superboy and LSH issues. What I'm wondering is why WB would make a movie with the JLA and not the LSH. Sounds like a lame idea.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films
BTW don't know if anyone else noticed but "The Killing Joke" and "Assault on Arkham" are being re-released on Sept 11th in 4K.

Hush has beautiful art. I think it's Jim Lee's most impressive run.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films
So I watched 2 of the movies from the DC set over the last few days.
I watched Wonder Woman and Justice League: New Frontier. Was New Frontier some kind of special comic series/take on the characters? Didn't realize that it took place post-Korean War. The animation style was also kind of different. It was mostly a Green Latern origin story. I enjoyed it, but can't say it was my favorite take on the characters. Wonder Woman was okay. I did like Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion's voice work as Diana and Steve Trevor. It did seem this disc was re-formatted to help promote Wonder Woman 2017. One of the featurettes had Patty Jenkins being interviewed. |
Re: DC Animated Universe Films
Yeah New Frontier was a mini (maxi?) series by Darwyn Cooke, basically an Elseworlds. It's also why the animation style was so different.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films
Was there ever a steelbook for Batman: Year One?
I can't seem to find one searching on the net, so I am assuming no but figured one of you guys could answer for certain. |

Re: DC Animated Universe Films
i thought and still think Wonder Woman is the best animated DC ever put out. hope this next installment is similar in style and tone, but knowing DC, it won't be...
