Given that Gaslight was also quite good, I'm really looking forward to the new Superman entry. But having made the mistake with The Dark Knight Returns, I will not be buying each individual entry if they split them into two releases. Figuring it's a given that they will release the combined entry down the like just like they did the TDKR.

Finally watched Suicide Squad: HTP and while it was ok, the ending was telegraphed from a mile away and all I could think was, man this is gratuitous. I think it's by design though. From the multiple venues with strippers in them to the choice of "Fate", to the brief topless scene, to the daughter's roommate, to the brutal deaths, at times it just seemed like "hey look what we can do with an R rating." Like honestly, I don't remember how old the daughter is supposed to be but the roommate scene was just really odd to me.

I did like that it tied into a previous movie.

I find it far worse when a film about sex and violence contains very little of either. There are plenty of other moves not rated R if people are going to criticize actual R rated content as being gratuitous.

I'm glad I rented Batman Ninja from our library before I opened my copy. Not my cup of tea. I'm still glad I saw it, but not a movie I would watch again.

Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay...was so much fun. loved the headshots by Deadshot and the violence was fine. didn't really see the graphic nudity, but fun movie and loved the twists and turns.

I liked Batman Ninja. I only occasionally watch anime, but I dug the style. Not sure I'd watch it again, but I enjoyed the ride.

Yeah, I just watched it over the weekend. It was, pardon the expression, bat-crap crazy but I really liked it. It's easily the most visually spectacular of the DC animated movies I've seen. The way the rogue's gallery is involved was really cool and the story was interesting (and over-the-top in an awesome way). It's definitely a "gotta be in the right mood" thing, but I'll get in the mood for it again multiple times I think.

I know there were a few posts about Death of Superman already but I was wondering if anyone knows if there will be a steelbook.

It's a good bet. Just a matter of where since they started moving the steelbook exclusives between retailers.

Did I read that this will be releases in two parts like The Dark Knight Returns? Which means there could possibly be a release that combines the two parts down the road like there was for The Dark Knight Returns.

Someone leaked the Death of Superman about a month ago and word-of-mouth is very positive. It's supposedly much, much better than the attempt from ten years ago.

That's a fantastic deal. But dammit, I still have half of those sitting on my shelf mostly unwatched.

So why am I desperately trying to convince myself not to buy this dang thing?!?!?

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I bought it.

Had some credit card rewards points as well, which took it down to $68.00.

Pretty cool collection and has a 2 hour bonus disc as well.

I think I own maybe 4 or 5 of them, but the price was too hard to pass up on.

All these movies will probably be on the new DC Universe streaming service this Fall, but I want to support a physical collection like this.

There is no Digital code or codes. As long as these can be VUDU D2D for $2 each, then another $60 and you've got UV &/or MA of all 30 as well.

I bit at the $139.99 price, but it hadn't shipped yet, so I placed another order and the Amazon chat rep said she would monitor the first order and cancel it during the hand-off to the carrier, as I could no longer do so. I thanked her, but it's too bad this can't be more straightforward.

<$5 per film was fine with me, but now this offsets the cost of 1-2 keep cases, to replace the lousy cardboard packaging. :)

I want to bite but man, what a crappy collection of extras for the set.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

I managed to sell off about 16 discs at Book Off today which included about 5 or 6 of the movies in the collection (DVD and BD)

I got a little over $30 so that kind of helps off set the cost of the set for me.

I'm leaning towards subscribing to DC Universe, so IMO that would be the "Digital" version of these movies as I assume the entire collection will be available in it.

My DC set arrived yesterday.

I see now on Amazon that it's back-ordered a few months. I noticed that it's limited edition of 20,000 sets.

Anyways, It's kind of big and bulky. If you don't like these big sets and have limited shelf space, it's definitely not for you. The discs are packaged like a giant book, similar to the Shout Bruce Lee set, and packed in cardboard sleeves/pages.

I don't hate it, but the major draw for it is the art, and I can't see them keeping that art style and animating it well.

Yeah, i'm curious how they'll do the art style. But yeah, a big appeal for me is being a big Jim Lee fan.

I don't know who is making this movie but I remember an interview with Bruce Timm about TAS. They wanted to change the artwork with a couple of episodes that were based on stories that Denny O'Neal and Neal Adams did. They wanted it to look like Neal's art but found it difficult to do; especially with the budget constraints. They did do a bit of Frank Miller in one episode though not the whole thing.

Since this is a movie the budget is obviously bigger. So, hopefully they do it in Jim Lee's style.

Same reason I expect them to change up the members of the FF. It will sell more copies.

Really? In my neck of the woods, it's one of the most popular stories in all comics. It also kind of led to the return of Jason Todd.

Also, Best Buy has several of the DC Animated movies for sale

I think it's certainly well known and popular, especially for casual comic book fans like myself, but I've just heard a lot of negativity for it from "hardcore" comic book readers about the Hush/Tommy Ellott character and the inclusion of all these characters for fan service.

The art is indeed beautiful but the story is thin and blah.

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

So I watched 2 of the movies from the DC set over the last few days.

I watched Wonder Woman and Justice League: New Frontier.

Was New Frontier some kind of special comic series/take on the characters? Didn't realize that it took place post-Korean War. The animation style was also kind of different. It was mostly a Green Latern origin story. I enjoyed it, but can't say it was my favorite take on the characters.

Wonder Woman was okay. I did like Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion's voice work as Diana and Steve Trevor. It did seem this disc was re-formatted to help promote Wonder Woman 2017. One of the featurettes had Patty Jenkins being interviewed.

fujishig 07-27-18 04:42 PM

Re: DC Animated Universe Films

Yeah New Frontier was a mini (maxi?) series by Darwyn Cooke, basically an Elseworlds. It's also why the animation style was so different.
