Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2015 Blu-ray releases

If Aladdin is released next year, I wonder if they will also release Return of Jafar. I was trying to find info on it and it is really only in 1.33:1?

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2015 Blu-ray releases

I'm pretty sure that when Aladdin's released they'll also put both Aladdin sequels on blu-ray too, either separately or as a 2-pack, since they did the same thing when Aladdin was put on DVD.

Also, both sequels were direct-to-video on VHS and full frame, although King of Thieves was cropped into a sometimes-awkward 1.85:1 framing when put on DVD, while Return of Jafar was left full-frame.

Yes, hopefully any BD of King Of Thieves will be at 1:33:1. While most of the scenes look fine, there were others that didn't work at all. They're two of the better sequels and I'll be definately be picking it up if they do King of Thieves right.

how about one of my favourites, Dinosaur (2000). It was a 39th Animated Classic and hopefully it might come out in the UK on Disney Blu Ray and DVD in January 2015?

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2015 Blu-ray releases

Here's the two outcomes I see:
  1. There is no Blu-ray release of the DTV Aladdin sequels due to poor original source elements.
  2. Disney releases them to Blu-ray and they're matted to 1.66:1.
Most of Disney's DTV sequel line-up has been trash and The Return of Jafar is regarded by most to be one of the worst. I don't care if they see a release, I just want to purchase Aladdin.

I like Dinosaur...until they started talking. It could have been a wonderful little movie if they had the balls to make it with no dialogue.

I'd say it's easily the complete opposite, and most people fondly remember Return of Jafar as one of the best DTV sequel. I know I do

Available here. Don't worry that it's from the UK. I have it and can confirm it is indeed region-free.

I'll take Aladdin and possibly the sequels if they're released at the same time. I haven't seen 101 Dalmations in a long time and can't really remember whether I liked it or not. Don't really care about the rest of the stuff listed.

I liked it far better when it was called The Land Before Time. I can't believe Disney was shameless enough to rip off Don Bluth's movie.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2015 Blu-ray releases

Aladdin's already been out in other countries for a few years, but in addition to the famous lyric change it's also got revised animation for an IMAX release that never happened, just like The Lion King.

Never saw Return of Jafar, but have King of Thieves on laserdisc and it's surprisingly good- Robin Williams came back for that one. I think that was also the first direct-to-video program to be produced with a 5.1 sound mix.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2015 Blu-ray releases

I think in regards to the Aladdin sequels, I remember liking Return of Jafar more than King of Thieves, but do have them both on DVD.

They both suffer from TV production values when compared visually to the feature film, but I think where they faired better than most DTV sequels was in the writing and performances.

They were still not quite up to par with the original film, but definitely trying. I wouldn't accuse most of those other sequels of even doing that.

In regards to the upgraded animation for the IMAX release that didn't happen, can anybody with a copy of the existing blu-ray confirm if they replaced the textures on those stone walls that he had to dodge on the cave escape/magic carpet scene? It always looked like really bad Tomb Raider or Doom wall skins before.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2015 Blu-ray releases

Return of Jafar is the prototype for bad direct to video sequels. Just pedestrian and paint-by-numbers the whole way through.

King of Thieves was more enjoyable, but that may have been in comparison to the previous film.

You mean this one, which has been available on Blu-ray since 2006?

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2015 Blu-ray releases

The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a lossless 7.1 soundtrack, and supplements will include: All New Short – The Further Adventures of Thunderbolt; Walt Disney Presents “The Best Doggoned Dog in the World” (1961 Version); Lucky Dogs; DisneyView; Dalmatians 101: Hosted by Cameron Boyce (Disney Channel’s “The Descendants”); plus a Selection of Classic Bonus Features.
It looks like Disney is really phoning it in on the supplements, just like they did at the tail end of the Platinum Collection.

The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a lossless 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements include: Theatrical Short Feast, Deleted Scenes, The Origin Story of “Big Hero 6”: Hiro's Journey (hosted by Jamie Chung, voice of Go Go Tomago), Big Animator 6: The Characters Behind the Characters, and the Blu-ray exclusive Big Hero Secrets (Easter Egg) - The movie is filled with Easter Eggs, and this Buzzfeed-type list piece will give you a sampling of some of the hidden treasures in the film.

If the Classic Feature section has all the DVD features, I think 101 looks like a pretty good release.

I just hope the picture is one of the better conversions rather than one of the worst. Used to be you could count on Disney to always do their best with the classics.

So, a movie from 1961 gets a 7.1 lossless mix and a movie from 2014 gets a 5.1 lossless mix. yeah that makes sense Disney

Damn, didn't know Fun and Fancy Free came out last year. In that case, I'd hope they release the rest of the older ones soon.

Re: Walt Disney Animated Classics 2015 Blu-ray releases

^It did, but only as part of a two pack with Ichabod and Mr. Toad. Icabod & Mr. Toad was also released separately. It didn't get much pub and many places only carried the single release.

I recently picked up the two pack as a fulfillment title at DMC. To me it seemed like the most cost effective way to do it. Only the one film pack is available as an enrollment title.

It does say a "Selection" of the classic features, which is kind of ominous.

IIRC, that was a hallmark of the tail end of the Platinum Collection also, phoned-in, sub-standard transfers.

You guys didn't get this on Blu yet? We've had it in the U.S. for many years and it looks just fine. That isn't meant to be a brag, just a statement of fact.
