i might be willing to give this one another chance if the price is right...

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Best Farrelly comedy by a mile. May pick it up.

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Finally!

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
This is my favorite Farrelly Bros. movie. Bill Murray is great in it. Wasn't the DVD version the extended cut (or maybe it had both versions)? I know it had the commentary on it, because I remember the Brothers saying how Murray pretty much tore up his script and ad-libbed everything.

Why is there a Paramount logo on the spine? Shouldn't Fox be distributing this for MGM?

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Ah, Rysher Entertainment, one of my favorite defunct studios from the 1990s whose films I often projected to near-empty theaters. I have the DTS laserdisc of this, which my audiophile friend agrees was the most pointless DTS LD release as the sound mix just doesn't do anything. (The DVD was the extended cut only BTW.)
|
They were the ones with whom Paul Thomas Anderson apparently had a knockdown dragout about their recutting of his first film.

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Is Randy Quaid still on the run?
|
Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Great movie, I was going to pass on this because I was satisfied with the DVD. But the extended version has me interested. I may wait to see if the extended cut is worth it though to buy it.

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Isn't the extended cut exactly what's on the DVD?
This is one of my favorite comedies with heart and I'll pick it up for sure. |

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Cover stinks. The photoshopping on Vanessa Angel is ridiculous.

It looks like she's popping out of her vagina.

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Still love Dumb & Dumber and There's Something About Mary more, but Kingpin is a very funny Farrelly Brothers movie. I love that 'Munson' became an adjective that summer of 1996!

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
My favorite Farrelly Bros movie easily.
I'll pick this one up for sure. |

"Bye Roy. Bye Whore!" That line sent me and my friend laughing all the way out the theater when we saw it 18 years ago.

I think this is what the original poster was when it came out, I thought most people liked that around here.

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
The late 90s was a terrible time for movie posters.

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Just a heads up. Walmart is supposed to be carrying this in stores for $9.96. It releases tomorrow.

Some members on blu-ray.com found them early at their local stores. Amazon is still selling this for $21+.

Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Plenty of copies at my Walmart, and it was $9.96!
|
Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Great movie for a great price, and reportedly the transfer is decent as well.
|
Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Watched my copy yesterday. Nice transfer, fun extras. I think it really is my favorite Farrley Bros movie. It holds up on repeated viewings a lot better than their other flicks.
Also, in a slightly self serving (but interesting) plug, Vanessa Angel is the guest on this week's episode of my TV Guidance Counselor Podcast. Free on iTunes and the usual places. <iframe width="100%" height="166" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/169784197&color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&sho w_user=true&show_reposts=false"></iframe> |
Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Did WalMart copies have a Vudu digital copy, by any chance?
|
Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Couldn't find any copies at my local Wal Mart.....yet
|
Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Walmart is doing a new re-set of their $9.96 titles. Kingpin is in that section. I saw the shelf tag this morning, but no copies were out yet. Hopefully it arrives soon as the online pricing stinks.
|
Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Couldn't find it today, ot a tag for it.

The Walmart I was in today had about 15 or so copies for $9.96. All of them had slipcovers, and all of them were beat to shit. I think it's because of the material used for the border and the sides of the box. It's very gritty and kind of embossed. Must be prone to wear a lot faster. One thing I noticed is that there was no Warner Bros. logo on it. Looks like Paramount distributed it themselves. Is there a reason this was exempt from their deal for catalog titles? |

Warner was not given access to libraries that Paramount has access to like CBS Video, Rysher, and Republic Pictures. |
Re: Kingpin - 9/9/14
Still no luck finding this.
