Best Farrelly comedy by a mile. May pick it up.

This is my favorite Farrelly Bros. movie. Bill Murray is great in it. Wasn't the DVD version the extended cut (or maybe it had both versions)? I know it had the commentary on it, because I remember the Brothers saying how Murray pretty much tore up his script and ad-libbed everything.

Why is there a Paramount logo on the spine? Shouldn't Fox be distributing this for MGM?

Paramount purchased Rysher literally days after MGM released the DVD. MGM distributed it theatrically which made them an obvious choice to release it at the time but that's all ancient history.

Ah, Rysher Entertainment, one of my favorite defunct studios from the 1990s whose films I often projected to near-empty theaters. I have the DTS laserdisc of this, which my audiophile friend agrees was the most pointless DTS LD release as the sound mix just doesn't do anything. (The DVD was the extended cut only BTW.)

They were the ones with whom Paul Thomas Anderson apparently had a knockdown dragout about their recutting of his first film.

Great movie, I was going to pass on this because I was satisfied with the DVD. But the extended version has me interested. I may wait to see if the extended cut is worth it though to buy it.

Isn't the extended cut exactly what's on the DVD?

This is one of my favorite comedies with heart and I'll pick it up for sure.

Yes. The bonus here is the theatrical cut.

Cover stinks. The photoshopping on Vanessa Angel is ridiculous.

Still love Dumb & Dumber and There's Something About Mary more, but Kingpin is a very funny Farrelly Brothers movie. I love that 'Munson' became an adjective that summer of 1996!

My favorite Farrelly Bros movie easily.

I'll pick this one up for sure.

I think this is what the original poster was when it came out, I thought most people liked that around here.

"Bye Roy. Bye Whore!" That line sent me and my friend laughing all the way out the theater when we saw it 18 years ago.

Here's the original poster courtesy of Amazon:

The Blu-ray cover looks like it was run through Photoshop one more time.

The late 90s was a terrible time for movie posters.

Just a heads up. Walmart is supposed to be carrying this in stores for $9.96. It releases tomorrow.

Nice, thanks. I'll swing by during lunch tomorrow and try my luck.

Some members on blu-ray.com found them early at their local stores. Amazon is still selling this for $21+.

Kingpin would have been perfect for a 70's styled screwball comedy movie poster (I.E. Animal House).

Plenty of copies at my Walmart, and it was $9.96!

Great movie for a great price, and reportedly the transfer is decent as well.

Watched my copy yesterday. Nice transfer, fun extras. I think it really is my favorite Farrley Bros movie. It holds up on repeated viewings a lot better than their other flicks.

Also, in a slightly self serving (but interesting) plug, Vanessa Angel is the guest on this week's episode of my TV Guidance Counselor Podcast. Free on iTunes and the usual places.

Did WalMart copies have a Vudu digital copy, by any chance?

Couldn't find any copies at my local Wal Mart.....yet

Walmart is doing a new re-set of their $9.96 titles. Kingpin is in that section. I saw the shelf tag this morning, but no copies were out yet. Hopefully it arrives soon as the online pricing stinks.

No. Just the film.

The Walmart I was in today had about 15 or so copies for $9.96. All of them had slipcovers, and all of them were beat to shit. I think it's because of the material used for the border and the sides of the box. It's very gritty and kind of embossed. Must be prone to wear a lot faster.

One thing I noticed is that there was no Warner Bros. logo on it. Looks like Paramount distributed it themselves. Is there a reason this was exempt from their deal for catalog titles?

The film is property of Rysher Entertainment which CBS and Paramount have the rights to.

Warner was not given access to libraries that Paramount has access to like CBS Video, Rysher, and Republic Pictures.
