The Halloween set is a decent value if you don't previously own many of the included movies.

Regarding a thread about this film over on BD.com, it sounds like Shout! isn't taking the effort to properly master the audio in the previously deleted footage that will now encompass this new cut. Cliff MacMillan broke down the release on The Clive Barker Podcast.

Re: NIGHTBREED Director's Cut coming from Scream Factory - Oct. 28

Am I alone in thinking that Scream Factory is doing a really shitty job handling this release?

They're taking advance orders for the 'limited edition' from their website and haven't given us any details about what's on it that is different from the regular edition other than it includes the theatrical cut and an exclusive bonus blu-ray disc. And it costs $80, it's limited to 5,000 pieces, so get your order in NOW. And then, at an unspecified later date, we'll give you more details about what's on it.

And now, from the information divulged in that podcast, it sounds like the director's cut of Nightbreed might be more like a workprint than a finished film, with scenes that have either shitty audio or no audio, and a temp score. Or maybe those scenes without audio will just be included as deleted scenes. I can't really tell because MacMillan is vague in that interview.

I don't really know what to expect... is this going to be an awesome release, with a well put-together director's cut and tons of really cool special features? Or is the director's cut going to be a hackjob like the special Donner cut of Superman II and a bonus disc full of junk?

Shout already sold 2,500 copies of the limited edition. At this moment you can't pre order from them. I'm really worried when this is available at Amazon, because Shout had a 2 copy per customer limit but I don't know if Amazon would do the same.

Where did you hear this from? You can still add the LE to your cart on their website.

Hysteria! This is giving the wrong message to those companies who will see 'limited release' with nothing but dollar signs in their eyes.

Expecting many more $80+ catalog titles in the future! Pity.

With the way the LE copies are selling, it certainly seems like the demand is there even at $80.

What doesn't make sense to me is that the $55 premium isn't for the director's cut, which is what people have been clamoring for, but the theatrical cut, which people have been deriding for over a decade. And then there's the disc full of nebulous special features that cannot possibly be worth the difference in price. This would make much more sense if the regular release was the theatrical and the LE was the only place to get the DC.

Not surprising. I came out of lurking to post in that thread over there and got hit with personal attacks.

If they (actually) had sold through their 2,500, you think they would post about it on FB as they did with the first 1,000.

I can't believe people are buying the ones on ebay at those ridiculous prices. I doubt this thing will even sell out before it's release.

It's not you, it doesn't make sense. They claim that the price of the LE is so high because of the costs to recover and restore all of the lost footage that has been used for the Director's Cut... but the Director's Cut is included in the standard edition that's only $30! The insanely priced edition features the theatrical cut and some mystery supplements, which couldn't have been expensive as the restoration project. Shout Factory's decisions on this release have been bizarre to say the least. I think at $80, a lot of people are going to be disappointed with the LE. Unfortunately it's selling so well that it might set a precedent for this type of thing.

Ordered from Amazon. I'd rather save $20 than get a poster.

I'll pre-order the limited edition from Amazon. Wouldn't have paid $80 for it but $56 isn't as bad. I don't really care about the lower edition number or the poster.

I'm holding onto mine.

I don't know how Amazon pre-orders work for items such as these. Will they just keep ingesting pre-orders until the week of release. Is Shout/Scream instructing them to shut down pre-orders after X have been placed?

I'd assume if they hit the 5,000 mark that Amazon will stop taking orders. I'm guessing Shout Factory already has the number of copies they can release of the theatrical cut negotiated with Warner and it would probably be hard to extend that at this point without delaying the release.

There is no way Amazon is going to allow 5,000...they are very good with inventory and at least 1,000 will be sold through Shout.

It will be 4,000 or less, probably much less if other retailers will be selling them.

FYI: They are cancelling the Shout orders like crazy over at Blu-ray.com

Yeah, Just ordered from Amazon. I'll cancel my Shout pre-order.

I don't care about how low my number is, and I actually didn't want the poster. I have enough posters kicking around taking up space.

I don't understand why people are so worried about getting a copy. When amazon and Shout shut down sales, then you'll need to worry.
