wonder when the software is going to get released.

It seems they ditched Audyssey however and are using some in-house calibration system that may or may not actually do any room mode correction (Onkyo's own wording is confusing at best).

Target will also have an exclusive featurette "Godzilla: Rebirth of an Icon" and different artwork. They have a scan of the back cover and the film will have 7.1 audio.

I wonder if this exclusive will also be available for the 3D combo pack.

All of their exclusives thus far have.

I wonder how long that feature is. Doubt it'll be worth it. But I'm always interested in more features especially since WB has gotten cheap on us in that front.

hanshotfirst1138 08-04-14 02:37 PM

Just great. More retailer exclusives . Ah well, I'm the sucker who keeps picking them up.

Hopefully it will have cool supplemnets like the featurette in Monsters where they talk to Gareth in detail about making the film. That was some fascinating shit and hope that Godzilla has one too.

I want all the features I can get (and I strongly suspect a double dip is coming), so Target here I come.

Not liking this trend at all, this type of release deserves one, loaded release for the extras and if you want exclusives, keep it to cover art or figurines and such.

Based on what I have seen, and purchased, recently Target seems to focus on bonus content. I would certainly pefer things as you describe, but I would rather get some of this extra material rather than not have it. And I don't want Best Buy to get it. Not love lost from me for Best Buy these days.

And some pricing updates:

Target exclusive will be $22.99 (bonuses look to be on disc). Best Buy will have the 2D version for $9.99 or the 3D version for $14.99 if you buy any TV title $14.99 and up (same as the last couple big release promotions)

Still trying to decide between keeping my Amazon Metalpak order or grabbing Sleepy Hollow S1 for $24.99 and one of the Godzilla versions at Best Buy.

To be honest, it's not like there's a history of good extras on Godzilla Blu/DVDs. The Criterion release is (unfortunately) the outlier.

I'll probably just grab the Target one since I have a Redcard and will get 5% off.

(And why is the Chrome spellchecker underlining "outlier" ?)

Re: Godzilla - 9/16/14

I'm going for the Target release, too. The Metalpak looks cool, but not for $29.99 and not with less bonus features than Target's edition.

Plus, it's clear this will be getting another edition down the road, maybe as soon as next year.

Has there been indications of a double-dip rumored out there? Not so sure about these things as I used to be. Seems to be far fewer double dips these days. And when they do box sets, or double/triple packs, they tend to be the same discs in new packaging.

Here's a cool ad for the blu-ray - but spoiler warning, it's pretty much the entire movie in 2 minutes.

I'd like a source for that.

Question with things like an extra extra... Is it even worth it? The Target BD of Noah had another hour added to its features so that was awesome.

And considering this is a WB film...and they'll be pretty goddamn weak on features for the past what? 3-4 years?

so the Steelbook is Amazon only? I'll prob do the Best Buy promo then..

Question for those who have seen it theatrically- Do you think this title will benefit from 3D? Everything I've seen from it looks dim and dark and I have to wonder if springing for the 3D premium is going to be worth it in this case.

Solid Snake 09-11-14 02:12 PM

Re: Godzilla - 9/16/14

It's a PC film. Not that it matters to some degree cuz... well the G bits would have to be CGI.

I dunno. I saw it in 2D. From what I can gather based on the imagery... I don't think this one benefitted from it. Again..just basing it off what was there in the 2D.

The movie's own cinematographer says that he despises 3D, that he only shot the movie for 2D, and that the studio forced the conversion on him.

I don't know about that. Ever since Blu ray won the format wars, the only re-releases (On blu) we've been mostly seeing are for box sets (Director's series, Phase 1, LOTR, Dark Knight, etc)

at least the Target bonus will be on disc and not a download
