Riverdale season 1 getting a bluray release via WarnerArchive.
http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Riverda...-Release/23311 No word yet on whether Lucifer season 2 will be getting a bluray version. (Season 1 had a bluray version released via WarnerArchive). http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Lucifer-Season-2/23309 |
re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?
Honestly I'd gladly accept burn on demand releases if it meant the Blu-ray releases for shows that I collect that have stopped getting releases (Louie, which is available but DVD only and The Simpsons) would see future releases. At least something like the Warner Archive is still a decent option as you still get pressed discs in a decent package. Sure no extras but it would be better than nothing. I give WB props for giving fans of Riverdale that option.

Riverdale on DVD in stores but Blu only via mail order??? They've got it backwards- in the last years of 8-tracks, you could only get new albums through Columbia House while stores had the newer formats!

DVD is still the dominant format for TV shows. The studio isn't doing anything other than following market demands. |

I'd love to start picking up Lucifer on blu, but I don't have any faith it'll continue to stay available on the format.

Just started watching The Americans. According to Amazon, seasons 2 - 4 are available for streaming...and they are on DVD. What?

re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?
I have the Americans on DVD. TV on DVD are about the only standard DVD's I buy any more. A) most TV seems only available on DVD. B) I like to bring season sets with me on business trips and binge watch in the hotel room.

Here's an interesting turn of events. Wynonna Earp season 1 going bluray-only possibly. (ie. No dvd version).
http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Wynonna...Season-1/23329 It appears it is going through an indiegogo campaign, to see whether there's any interest to release it at all. |
re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?
I bet titles would sell OK on Blu-Ray only if there were no DVD option. Those who care about quality got Blu-Ray players a long time ago, those who don't care can take up streaming.

re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?
For something like an Indiegogo campaign, I'm sure it helps to focus on one format (unless you were going to support multiple formats at retail anyway), and the folks who support campaigns like this are probably more likely to be interested in BD than DVD.

re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?
I was googling yesterday and apparently Disney has zero plans for a Gravity Falls release, which is unfortunate.

IDW Entertainment produced Wynonna Earp, and is part of a large corporation including the IDW publishing arm, which published the Wynonna Earp comic. http://idwmediaholdings.com/ Typically with Indiegogo you have to worry about projects that aren't complete yet, or possibly not even started, by new and/or unknowns. With this, the Blu-ray is pretty much guaranteed to be delivered, since IDW won't want to deal with the damage to their established brand. It's basically a fancy pre-order, so IDW can figure out how many sets to print. |

Indiegogo is just a middleman for the creators of campaigns, in this case IDW Entertainment. It's basically a site that makes it easy for people to set up their own crowdfunding campaigns.

Big box set of Prison Break coming on 6/27 (including the recent "season" that just took place)

For years the only way to get Prison Break's entire run on Blu-ray was importing the set from France.

re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?
In December last year, they released seasons two and four here in the US. Yeah, it was odd that seasons one, three, and The Final Break have been available for awhile now. But this is the first time you can buy them all together. Oddly enough, it looks like you still have to buy The Final Break separately.

re: Why isn't TV-on-Blu-ray getting any love?
I just saw this post on Digital bits and figured this would be the best place to put this information, but a Friday Night Lights Complete series set is coming to bluray on 9/12. I still have the dvd series set, but I know I have seen plenty of posts here wishing this would finally happen.
