Is the MST3K-style video portion of the commentary also ported over from the DVD? Its omission wouldn't be a dealbreaker, but I always thought that was neat.

No. In fact I don't think it has been included on any release other than that original DVD. One of the reasons I'll be keeping the DVD.

That's not bad at all, to say the least. I don't need the resin bust at all; I'm fine with the digibook of both films. But anyone that wants it should jump immediately...

Same here. I hung onto the original Mallrats DVD for the video commentary clips as well, which wasn't ported over to the 10th Anniversary set or the Blu-Ray (not to mention I got it autographed by Michael Rooker, so naturally I'm gonna want to keep it).

I liked that too but I think that Ghostbusters 2 gets a somewhat bad rap honestly. Yeah it isn't the first film but its still pretty funny and a worthwhile sequel to own if you ask me. I'm glad to finally have them both on Blu-ray. One minor nitpick, I wish that Sony would have put the note from Ivan Reitman in with the rest of the "book" rather than just being a separate insert. Not a huge deal but its something I'll want to keep and I don't care for it just being loose in the case but oh well. Also I have to say it still feels like a bit of a low blow to Ernie Hudson to not have his name on the cover with the rest of them. I mean if Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis can both get their names there I really don't see why his name can't be there too. Granted they're bigger stars but still.

Ghostbusters II doesn't deserve to be derided as one of the worst sequels ever not does it deserve to be praised as one of the best. It's not terrible but it's not great. It doesn't insult the original but it doesn't live up to it either.

Ultimately if you think it is one of the worst sequels ever made you need to watch more movies, but if you think it's one of the best sequels ever you need to have your head examined.

I think its one of those things where certain fanboys on the Internet try to act holier than thou or something by proclaiming that the first film is leagues better than the sequel. It probably isn't a large group but a lot of films have those fans.

Same people who think that films like Back to the Future or Raiders of the Lost Ark are the only good entry in their respective series. Same even could be said with fans of the original Star Wars Trilogy who like A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back but act as though Return of the Jedi is shit.

Ernie Hudson has been 4th (or 5th or 6th wheel) to the main cast going back to the first film. There was no reason he shouldn't have been invited to the discussion with Reitman and Aykroyd.

Ghostbusters II will always be the redheaded stepchild to the first film, which is really sad. Always has been that way, always will. The only people that usually give it a pass are those that grew up with it, so those born in the 80s.

I've always been a GB2 supporter, even when I was a kid and watched it more times than I could ever count. Just because others hate it or whatever has never diminished my admiration for it.

Yeah I truly don't get the deal with barely acknowledging that he's part of the franchise. Its just sort of weird to me. Also I meant to write Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis in the post you quoted me from. Not sure why I typed Ramis whose name obviously should be on the cover.

So...there was this rumor that there was a deleted scene (among others) in Ghostbusters II that features Eugene Levy. If it exists it's not on the Blu ray.

Was it just a rumor or is it one of those deleted scenes that stays out of home video like the scene with Quark in Star Trek Insurrection?

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, there's a few deleted scenes missing from both Ghostbusters I & II in this set:

And no, it's not a rumor. He played Louis Tully's cousin, Sherman Tully.

I've never understood why people never give Winston any credit. He's the "regular guy" that gives the other three reasons to explain shit to the audience.

He also has some fantastic lines in the movie.

Winston rocks! Ernie Hudson has terrific comic timing.

"That's a big twinkie."

"What did you, Ray? Oh shit!"

"I love this towwwwn!"

Even after all this time, contracts still come into play. He didn't have top billing in the contract, and no one is going out there to buy a movie because Ernie Hudsons name is listed, so they are not going to waste time and money to get his name on the box of Ghostbusters.

Hudson's presence is vestigial and feels that way. I'm surprised they didn't excise the character altogether the moment they realized they weren't gonna land Eddie Murphy.

Hudson doesn't do a bad job but he doesn't really pull his weight compared to the top-billed cast listed on the posters and covers either. You can't honestly say Hudson's contribution to the film is as significant as even Weaver or Moranis.

I don't care what anyone says, the world of Ghostbusters would be poorer without Ernie Hudson as Winston. ("I has seen shit that would turn you white!")

I thought Winston was a serviceable character for how he was written. I'm sure its no coincidence that he doesn't get billing and also doesn't have a ton to do or the best lines. Not really his fault that he was basically an afterthought but he still was in both films alongside the other three as a Ghostbuster so I think he at least deserves some credit.

re: Ghostbusters 1 & 2: Anniversary Editions - 9/16/14 (and again on 6/11/19!)

I do think Winston adds to the film and to the team but he's just never written to the level of the other 3. I can't say anything about him in 2 cuz I barely remember it.

I've always liked Winston but I've always felt that if he wasn't in it...the film would still go the same without him. He doesn't add to the plot like the other 3. Though to me he is an interesting character cuz he was just a regular guy looking for a steady paycheck. That's interesting but it's never really added onto. In fact, isn't his first ghostbusting moment at the end? Fuck. I think it was.

I would have liked that character to be fleshed out more. Doesn't stop the movie from being great but as an observation... the film could have benefitted from more Winston integration.

The question really is then if he added so little why did they bother getting him back for the sequel? Just because he was available and the filmmakers wanted to retain the entire original cast?
