Yeah, I'm expecting the extended cut to be comprehensive. And if it's not then the first release should be cheap used by then.

They did the same thing with The Wolverine. To get the extended edition you had to buy the set with the 3D copy. Wouldn't be surprised if they did the same with this one.

The news that the extended edition IS happening good enough news that the announcement could be for 2 years from now and I'd still be stoked.

Barring an extended cut that reveals the entire third act was actually a vision Xavier has while on LSD I think its possible this film could go from very good to great.

The only thing I've heard about being cut from the theatrical version was

Spoiler:
Apparently, there's a set piece where they go too the school on the future and brave the Sentinels to get Rouge. Later, when Wolverine slashes Kitty, she's hurt so badly that Rouge takes her powers to help Wolverine finish out his time in the past. The odd thing is, though her final screen time is literally two seconds, Paquin is top-billed at the end credits.

Presumably, there are some other scenes we haven't heard about as well. I wonder of the disc will still include any deleted scenes? I wonder if the delay is just a cash-grab, or if they're doing an LOTR EE-type thing where they're actually polishing up the scenes with new FX and such? Even after GOG, I'm still holding that this was the summer's best.

True. And they probably saw the lost revenue that could have been had if they would have waited on that one (same thing we are going to see with Frozen in the next couple months). I'm not saying it's right by any means, but as a business decision it's a smart move.

I admit, at least they were honest and said it was coming.

That Best Buy exclusive looks like it will be Bluray size (aside from the thickness), right? I already have a nice collection of the previous movies going on and this is one of the areas I'd like it to look like it fits the theme.

I'm going to wait for the extended edition on this one. I wish they had released an edition with both cuts right out of the gate, like they did for The Wolverine.

The weird thing is that they'd aren't doing the extended cut to hype up the next movie. Maybe there's some more time needed with some aspect of post-production on it? I seriously doubt it though, I'm sure it's just to release the same film twice. I keep hoping it'll be in a big-ass mega-boxed set of all of the movies with the UV codes which DOESN'T omit the extras discs.

Nope, they'll probably have them on the extended edition that will come out next year.

Re: X-Men: Days of Future Past Blu - Late Summer/Fall

I just found a $5 RZ certificate in my account, I'm definitely in for the Best Buy exclusive (and I only need 29 points to get another one).

The Variety article basically says that too actually, same source -

The extended version of “Days of Future Past” will become available in the first half of 2015, most likely during the summer, according to the film’s writer and producer Simon Kinberg

Ah. Didn't know Summer was the first half. It's halfway, but first? Fuck it.

Re: X-Men: Days of Future Past Blu - Late Summer/Fall

Is the 9.99 deal at itunes and vudu too?

I remember after X3 in 2006, there were rumors of an extended cut that'd set up X4. But that never happened.

If it has Rogue in action, then I guess I'll get the extended cut next year.
