Seasons 1-3 were shot in standard definition enhanced wide screen from what I understand. They would have to be re-mastered for a Blu Ray release and it is very costly. They were shot on film instead of video, so it's capable of being done. I'm not sure when they started shooting 24 in HD.

FOX didn't start broadcasting in HD until 2004, which was season 4.

When the show was sold into syndication, Fox went back and made HD masters of 24 for the first three seasons. The masters they made don't look that great compared to some other shows Fox had to remaster (Firefly), but they exist.

The entire series is currently on Netflix in HD.

According to IMDB, some of the series' HD masters are from D5 tapes. That explains why it looks like shit when I just tested it out on Netflix.

probably no point producing a boxed set for something thats been on streaming services for at least the last couple of years now

however they'll be able to sell this new season on bluray/dvd

No need for a box set here. Season 1 on Blu would be good enough for me.

I asked myself the same question about Arrested Development before the new episodes went on Netflix.

I guess there just isn't much of a market for catalog shows on BD now. Most people aren't going to care enough about the extra quality over streaming to buy them.

yep, and they'd have to essentially go into the 35mm masters and rescan them to HD. 13 hours of programing x 3 would probably be pretty expensive

Sadly, you're probably 100% right; streaming has likely killed any chance of remasters and Blu releases.

Tick, tick, tick: Netflix users have only about a week to watch Fox’s “24,” the real-time thriller starring Kiefer Sutherland, before the series is removed from the streaming service in the U.S.

Netflix’s rights to “24″ — 202 episodes in all — expire April 1.

I agree. I always here it costs so much to make a Blu-ray release and blah blah blah, and whatever. It boils down to somebody who just doesn't give a crap and is more concerned with what's currently selling, and any time "wasted" on previous releases could hinder the valuable time of making the most profits off the current crop of crap.

I'm really surprised we have a season 9 of this show. I will say this. No Jack, Know Shit. Because without Keifer, this will be terrible.

I think it just boils down to the price of remastering vs. the potential profit from a release, and with the physical media market down on its knees, I can't imagine Fox are chomping at the bit to spend the money and time doing it.

Re: Why the Frack isn't there a '24' 8 season boxset being released right now !

I'm pretty hardcore when it comes 24, and even I'll admit I wouldn't buy BD releases of seasons 1-6. I'm content with the DVDs, and that's because I don't revisit them enough to warrant purchasing them again.

and as I'm typing this and doing some research, I run across this (see upper right corner):

and I want this!

24: Underground Comic (bridge story between Day 8 and Live Another Day)

So you're saying that you like Season 7 & 8 better than the first six?

Re: Why the Frack isn't there a '24' 8 season boxset being released right now !

Yeah I wouldn't look too hard into that Nina Meyers poster. I think it's just a shorter way for them to say that all the seasons are on DVD and BD without saying 1-6 on DVD only and 7-8 on BD.

Some here may claim they would buy a 1-8 complete series set in a heartbeat, but I honestly don't think the demand is there. Catalogue titles aren't in high demand these days.

I would buy the complete set if the price is right. But now since another season (mini series?) is coming out soon, it wouldn't be complete very long

I still have seasons 2-6 on dvd sealed on the shelf. I dont think I even finished watching season 1 on dvd. I believe my father still has most of the final season on his DVR yet to be watched. At this point, I will just buy seasons 7 and 8 on blue.

Of course not, but definitely won't double dip on the releases.

Anything else 24 related, I evaluate if I like it or not and might add it to my collection (books, toys, games, memorabilia, props, etc)

Pretty sure they will all be reissued on BD after this 9th season... if it really is final or not.

That's the problem. Fox basically gave the DVDs away to grow the audience. Getting people that paid around $10 a season to drop $200+ on a Blu-ray box would be an uphill battle.
