3 new Godzilla Blus -Hedorah, Ebirah and Gigan, summer of 2014
http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2...illa-vs-gigan/
The fun begins as 1971’s GODZILLA VS HEDORAH (ゴジラ対ヘドラ, Gojira Tai Hedora), released theatrically in the U.S in 1972 as GODZILLA VS THE SMOG MONSTER, pits Godzilla against the forces of pollution in the form of a constantly mutating, acid-spewing behemoth from outer space. What happens when three major movie monsters slam dance in the South Seas? The answer is 1966’s EBIRAH: HORROR OF THE DEEP (ゴジラ・エビラ・モスラ 南海の大決闘, Gojira Ebira Mosura Nankai no Daikettoo), originally released in the U.S. in 1968 under the title GODZILLA VS THE SEA MONSTER. Finally, 1972’s GODZILLA VS GIGAN (地球攻撃命令 ゴジラ対ガイガン, Chikyuu Kogeki Meirei Gojira Tai Gaigan) ups the giant monster ante once again with a series of tag team battles featuring four classic kaiju. Released theatrically in the United States in 1977 as GODZILLA ON MONSTER ISLAND |

If only someone would release an alternate version with the AIP dubs of Sea Monster and Son for nostalgists such as I.

including both the English dubbed and original Japanese versions with English subtitles All three are must-buys for me, although it'd also be nice if each came with a commentary track from one or more of the G-experts out there. I revisit the tracts on the Classic Media and Media Blasters discs fairly often. |
I think it's more likely that it's simply Toho's international uncut dubs and alternate audio tracks. The AIP versions were cut in certain ways, there would have to be some branching involved. It didn't happen for SOG, so I don't see it as likely for this either. Which isn't to say that it'll be a bad release or a poor transfer or anything, just that sadly, those AIP dubs are likely in the wind :(.

Re: 3 new Godzilla Blus -Hedorah, Ebirah and Gigan, summer of 2014
I hate Hedorah and Ebirah. Those films bored me even as a kid. Love Gigan though he is a bitch. Him and Jet Jaguar made that film they were in better cuz Megalon was not cutting it for me.
Godzilla vs. Gigan. Was that where G and Anguirus spoke to another when they were going through the water? That was a US dub, Japanese dub gave them thought bubbles or something. |

Re: 3 new Godzilla Blus -Hedorah, Ebirah and Gigan, summer of 2014
I'm very eager to see how these releases stack up, but I have no doubt I'll be buying all three. I've been watching every Godzilla film in a row and writing up detailed blog entries on each one. And as much as I enjoy being able to watch the original Japanese edits for many of the films, I grew up watching every Showa film, with AIP dubs, on a friggin' loop. I've probably seen Godzilla's Revenge more times than Star Wars.
I know nothing about Kraken releasing, or Section 23, so I just hope they do these with respect.

It's a shame that Universal can't include the japanese versions.

Maybe a mod can change this title to "Godzilla Films on BD", since many are expected to be announced by various studios in anticipation of the upcoming film.
Also, STOKED on KK v. G, even though it's US cut only. |

Re: 3 new Godzilla Blus -Hedorah, Ebirah and Gigan, summer of 2014
I'm assuming they could release it but they would probably have to pay Toho for the film elements. It's a shame because the Japanese version is superior.

Re: 3 new Godzilla Blus -Hedorah, Ebirah and Gigan, summer of 2014
My only hope is that Uni doesn't DNR the film to death. I agree the Jap. cut is superior, but I also grew up watching the U.S. version on a weekly basis, so it's (for better or worse) my preferred one to watch.
Plus, Toho is notoriously difficult to work with, and Uni barely has interest in releasing their own catalog titles, so I don't see them being too eager to enter into rough negotiations with Toho. |
Re: 3 new Godzilla Blus -Hedorah, Ebirah and Gigan, summer of 2014
Unfortunately, the full-length Japanese print of KKvG is in such bad shape, that when they remastered all the Godzilla films in HD and broadcast on Japanese TV as such, KKvsG was mastered from a shorter "festival" reissue of the film that was still in good shape and the extra scenes were simply upscaled from an SD master.
