'Elysium' Bound for Blu-ray

Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi blockbuster starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster arrives on Blu-ray in December.
In an early announcement to retailers, Sony will be releasing 'Elysium' on Blu-ray on December 17.

The Blu-ray/DVD/Ultraviolet Combo Pack will feature 1080p video, a lossless 5.1 soundtrack, and supplements will include: Collaboration: Crafting the Performances in Elysium - Meet the dynamic cast and get insight into how they prepared for their roles; and Engineering Utopia: Creating a Society in the Sky - A look at designing and creating the utopian space station.

Blu-ray exclusives include: Deleted Scene; Visions of 2154 - An interactive exploration of the art and design of Elysium; The Journey to Elysium; In Support of Story: The Visual Effects of Elysium - An in-depth look at the process of shooting visual effects scenes and incorporating CGI environments and vehicles into those scenes in post-production; The Technology of 2154 - From independently functioning Droids to next-generation military tech that gives humans machine-enhanced power, get insight from the filmmakers on the technology of Eysium.

actually the bluray features 7.1 audio (as it was released as such theatrically as well remixed in Dolby Atmos)

Elysium is Blomkamp's first film since his breakout hit District 13. While it performed moderately well in North America with $91.5 million in ticket sales, overseas business has been much stronger where grosses have reached $171.7 million. With a budget almost four times the amount of District 13 at $115 million, Elysium wasn't quite the hit many thought it would be.
