Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

It seems these days what with Netflix streaming and my sizable collection of Blu-Rays I've started to wait on deals rather than buy my Blu-Rays on release like I used to.

What are other people doing?

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

I'm still buying "big" titles upon release (i.e., Star Trek, World War Z)...most TV season sets/smaller films I'm waiting for the bargain bin.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

I only buy on release day if there is an exclusive that I want and it will be limited, the last two I can think of are the Target steelbook of Evil Dead and the Target bonus disc for Star Trek Into Darkness. The next movie I will probably get is Man of Steel, but I'm not sure whether the steelbook or digibook.

Buying the big title releases I want, and waiting on catalog or a big title that I am only casually interested in. IMO Catalogs are coming out high now a days, and big titles have sales shortly after release.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

I've found myself starting to wait. I have enough of a backlog that there's no point in paying a premium for some thing I'm not going to be able to watch anytime soon.

The only ones I buy at release are the steelbooks and other collectibles that might not be around by the time it goes on sale. Everything else, I wait until the Best Buy upgrade and save or other huge discounts.

I only buy on release if there's a great price or an exclusive that I think is pretty cool.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

I've been finding myself buying fewer titles upon release. Anything that I don't intend to watch shortly thereafter can wait.

Unless I really want the film, I tend to wait for good deals. Everything comes down eventually, no point in paying over $20 for a new title I won't get around to for a while.

I've trying to accomplish this, not buy on first day of release, but there are some titles I really want ... but then - whoops - where's the time gone? - I still haven't opened that bluray up to watch it.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

Not nearly as frequently as before. As others have mentioned, I have a backlog so I'm not quick to pick up a New Release I won't watch soon.

Also I'm finding unless the release day price is REALLY good, the prices only get better later on.

Yes, but also not as frequently and only the big titles I really want like the big summer movies.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

Big movie titles...only if it's $20 or less.

TV....unless I absolutely have to have for catching up, it can wait until its $20-25 or less.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

As mentioned above, if there is an exclusive or a price too good to pass up, I'll buy on release day.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

Yes. Especially with catalog titles. I think it's important to show there's demand for these the first week of release.

Nothing except for Disney titles (which rarely get discounted below first week sales), and even on a lot of those I've decided to wait for Disney Movie Club if they don't publish a coupon.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

Unless there's a good deal, I wait on almost everything. I think Iron Man 3 and The Fog are the only titles I've bought at release without some kind of deal. That said, I picked up a whole lot of recent TV releases on day one by taking advantage of Best Buy's $25 gc w/ $100 purchase deal, combined with price matching. I also picked up a fair number of movies on day one during U&S this summer. But there are almost no movies I'll plop down $25 for when I know they'll likely hit half that within a couple months.

Unless I *really* want the movie, I've learned to wait given how much BD prices have proven to fluctuate.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

Very few. Some of the big titles I grabbed but I buy very few to begin with and most I'm willing to wait for.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

TV is an interesting dilemma. I want to support my favorite shows that are on the air and ones that have replay value. And if it helps keep the show on the air, then great. However, I cannot afford to purchase $30-45 sets for all my favorites every year. It gets too expensive and I have more important things to spend my money on.

Ever since I got Netflix and Hulu Plus, this is what I have been doing.

Re: Are you still buying your Blu-Rays on release?

It all depends if I get a good deal on release day. $20 is usually my buy price on release day. If not, I wait 'til it gets lower. But when I decide to wait, I usually wait 'til it's $15 or lower.
