Re: Blu-rays for SD capacity?

This looks to be another SD release (actually two) on Blu-ray: the 1955 and 56 kinescopes of live performances of Peter Pan with Mary Martin.

Since it's film it could be HD (?), but since it's made from non HD video, is there any point in putting it on Blu-ray? Maybe someday they'll artificially add additional lines of resolution.

BD discs can do things DVD can't. It may be worth releasing SD content to take advantage of interactive features.

I don't think anyone cares about interactive features. It certainly didn't matter much to DVD when it was advertised as a "special feature".

A little rich for my blood, but at least they have the sense to have english subtitles on all 152 episodes.

I've love to have more Shin-Chan episodes, even if they're just subbed. This seems like a perfect format for releasing them.

SD upconverted, or straight SD? Any examples?

I believe both Pixies' Blu-rays are from SD sources.

The Blu-ray does at least have both peformances on one disc; the DVD releases are separate.

I can't find any resolution info on this disc, but it's very possible it's an HD transfer of a film that's a recording of an SD broadcast.

This review states that they're both 1080i on the disc:
http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/3816/pixies_live.html
[quote]Both sets are presented with a 1080i/MPEG-4 encoded transfer at an aspect ratio of 1.78:1. [quote]

So they may be from SD sources, but they're not stored as SD on the Blu-ray, like some of the extras are. So they're at least SD upconversions.

Jesus, how much porn does someone need in one sitting?! Bunch of damn show-offs, I suppose.
