Maybe I saw it on VHS. I don't know.
What films have they kept it on? 2001 and what else? I've either seen Enter The Dragon so many times that that logo is still there for me or it still has it.

I remember as a kid seeing the logo and hearing the sound effects under it, it scared the crap out of me. I knew I was going to be terrified by what was to follow.
Link to the 1997 dvd release, like I said, I don't think it has this logo

Both of those screenshots are part of the same logo opening.

EDIT: I guess there is a slight difference since during this opening, you never see the logo as red letters with a black surround.

Logo's what?
Seriously though that kind of shit doesn't hurt the film but it alters the visual of that era and film history. Which to me is important in maintaining the history.

I don't see the harm in advocating for the original logo, especially when it's incorporated into the film via the score or some variation in it. New Logo, Old Logo should be standard practice and everybody wins.

Yes, you've made your point before, don't need to hear it again. Great you don't care, obviously you don't experience films the same way some of the rest of us do. It is an issue with a lot of fans of the film. If you cannot at least empathize with those wanting to see the film as originally presented, and only feel the need to be condescending, you are not a fan of film or art.
For the record, I didn't bring it up again, I was quoted and asked a question.
A logo that was created for this film and used for dramatic effect was replaced.
Yes I take issue, and it is not a petty complaint.

On many movies, the original logo is an integrated part of the film. When Warner cut the original opening logo from Mean Streets, they also cut the original transition where narration played over a black screen. Now that narration plays over the new CGI Warner Bros. logo, which makes no sense at all.

Many classic movies integrate the logo into the film's movie credits. Something is lost when they needlessly chop it off for the ugly, modern logo.

What other studios do this besides Warner? I'm so used to seeing certain movies start a certain way that I'm kind of caught off guard when they change it.
The Vegas Vacation Blu-ray changed the logo opening to the current one. Before was that static WB logo from the 90s and now it's the "floating" logo.
They've done that with a lot of their movies from the 80s and 90s.

MGM/UA pretty much always replaced original UA logos especially from the 60s/70s, though they have been present on some UA films I have through the MGM MOD (Leo the Last, The First Time, The Revolutionary come to mind as specific titles).

Not a cut line, changed audio, dropping the original Sound mix. A logo.
Clearly I'm not a fan of film because I don't care about a logo that appears on screen for seconds.
Just buy the old Digibook and be happy.

Universal did it for Halloween II on Blu-ray and dozens of fans were upset by it (mostly a few people before the kids over on the other forum threw a hissy fit).

Did people get upset when MGM would roll out a new Leo the Lion? I know, different issue
For the most part I agree with keeping the original logo. It's part of the original movie. But I won't get too riled up if it's changed unless it does change the tone of the opening.

re: The Exorcist 40th Anniversary (Blu-ray) - 10/8/13
I can see both sides of the argument.
Do I understand how changing the logo can change the mood and tone of a film (arguably at one of the most important times - the start of the film)? YES
Have I ever declined to purchase a movie (especially on release date) because of a changed logo? NO
However, I think nostagia has a lot to do with the mood people are talking about. It places the film in an older time period.
It also, in the case of films like The Exorcist, can create a disconcerting mood because it's not the modern logo that we're currently familiar with so it puts us off a bit psychologically. Though I don't think this would normally have been the intention at the time since the logo would have been familiar to audiences then.
In defense of people wanting the old logos for mood, remember that some directors like David Fincher (with Zodiac) have used older studio logos to set the tone for a period films. Personally, I especially enjoy this.
On the studio's side, I'm sure they're thinking of the same thing as when they change coverage artwork, etc. that they would like the films to appear timeless so a kid watching the films for the first time has no idea it's not a new movie. And yes, I know how stupid this is, since it's usually pretty damn obviously when a film is older, no offense intended. It's like when studios use color covers on black & white films. It sometimes feels like borderline bait & switch.
Plus, with logos, who cares if it dates the film? On a business side, the customers have already bought or rented the film. Also, I've never seen anyone watching a movie, see an old logo, shout "goddammit, this is an OLD movie", and storm out of the room.
As a compromise, I don't understand why studios can't just slap their old logo on the start of the films before the original logos start, unless there's some weird legal issue that prevents a "double logo" from a studio. We have to see the modern WB logo at the start of the disc anyway before the movie even starts.

Actually, here's an interesting page about the WB logos:
http://www.closinglogos.com/page/Warner+Bros.+Pictures
I don't think I've ever seen 1, 6 or 7 before.

The Exorcist is probably one of the few, if not the only, movie that it does change the tone of the opening. The red/black mirrors the movie title that comes up immediately after & the creepy violin music underscores it in a way that just doesn't work with clouds & a shield.

Question about these two versions
https://www.amazon.com/Exorcist-Exte.../dp/B001992NW4
https://www.amazon.com/Exorcist-40th...8171850&sr=8-2
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but neither one of these has original English mono track, only DTS, for either theatrical or updated one. Right?
