It's cool for the Red case and Digital codes otherwise it's just the same original blurays of the first 8 movies.

It's now clear to me that new release versions of this franchise are more unstoppable than the killer himself. Since I already have HDX versions through VUDU, plus the DVD box set, plus the documentaries, this is a hard pass for me.

so it's just a stripped down version of the giant box set with digital copies added? Probably will include the Part 3 in 3D at least. I'm guessing it will be under $40 before the end of the year.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

I don’t think this will have any of the extras of the great box set, nor true 3D. That’s what I think. Maybe remastered, but same blus sans extra discs and perhaps any extras at all. Why would Shout license all that out?
That would be something to promote. All they said was remastered and the digital copies, which most got anyway from prior SteelBox set. This won’t be anything close to how Shout! did it up last year...

There is absolutely no reason to buy that if you spent the money for the Shout factory set.

The announcement leads me to believe that the first four films are going to be the same transfers Scream used on their disks. If that's the case then it's a cheap way to buy 4K transfers of the first four films. Discs 5-8 will probably be the same old discs.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

According to Amazon, that "8 Movie Collection" in the red case is a Paramount release; shouldn't be surprising since Shout/Scream don't seem to offer digital downloads.

I'm guessing it's either a repackaging of Paramount's previous blu-ray collection -- though possibly with the first four films upgraded with the Scream Factory transfers or discs.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

Probably to capitalize on Shout’s massive release. Although many months too late to show this as an alternative offer. That and the fact that the Shout one is still available, and at a great price. Only plus I see is to get the digital codes. And even this series has been on sales a few times on digital.

yuck. That won’t have anything, extras, nothing. If you have any interest in this series, $110 on Amazon for this content is money very well spent. Anything else just buy the movies digitally, bc most likely you don’t care too much and be done with it. No reason for physical whatsoever with this cheapo set.

Are the replacement discs from Shout still available? Which ones are they?

The replacement discs were for Friday the 13th Part III, Jason Goes to Hell, and Jason X. I would think by now the sets that are available for sale would be corrected. Maybe not though.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

Coincidentally, I went through this entire set this month. Every feature, commentary, trailer and so on. Lots of quality content, obviously. I enjoyed most of the commentaries, especially ones that were done by directors/filmmakers. The ones featuring actors were a little more tedious to sit through at times. I was disappointed in the full-length Scream Queens documentary on one of the bonus discs. It focused on some older actresses starring in horror roles and seem to throw in a bunch of random F13th clips throughout.

A tremendous box set overall. I was determined to check it out sooner rather than later after ponying up the money for it. Anyone else take time to check out everything?

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

I've watched all the movies (both theatrical and alternate versions where applicable) and all extras in the original box, haven't played the commentaries yet. I've watched the corrected 3D disc of part 3 also, since I'm obsessive I'm keeping both the original and corrected discs and will 'finish' all of them eventually.

Why would you care? Didn't you get the Shout Factory Deluxe set?

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

Yes, that’s why I’m saying this set is a joke and a ridiculous price for a barebones collection when Shout is roughly $30 more. It’s ridiculous. How did that not come across?

$80 is the MSRP, just like $160 is the MSRP for the big set. Not a $30 difference.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

This set is also a lot more likely to get steeply discounted in the future than the Shout set is.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

at getting bent out of shape about this. You know this exists currently, right?

It seems to be just a repackage with some new art, new masters of the first four, and digital copies.

Like it was said from the get go of when the Shout set was announced... Paramount will continue to milk it and will release new versions...4K versions... etc.

Re: Friday The 13th BR Box Set in the works.

I for one am excited about this new set. I'm not a super fan of the franchise, so the shout box is overkill for me. I've come so close to buying the older 8 movie collection. It's nice to have the option of the updated masters. Even though it's not out yet, this new set is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite box set of all time. I obviously haven't seen it, and I will probably never watch it if I do buy it, but I just know.

The HDX VUDU set is $30. I MIGHT go that route since I really don't watch my DVD set much.
