Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Preorder Up (Fall 2013)

I decided to go with Target for the 3D version with bonus disc even though I think the cover is ugly.

FYI for anyone where the cover may be a dealbreaker, the cover under the slipcase is the same as the one on the slipcase.

Looking at this thread, I think I'm the crazy one for just wanting the movie and not caring about slipcovers, case design or how many fluffy, worthless featurettes I'll be receiving.

The Steelbook can also be ordered from Amazon UK on its own without the model ship. [Edit: Or maybe not. It appears to have been delisted.]

Future Shop in Canada has a different (IMO better) Steelbook, but unfortunately they don't ship to the U.S., so you'll need a friend in Canada who can buy it and mail to you.

Well they from a start had announced they wouldn't double dip on BD. Remember when Transformers was first released on BD? Paramount had announced there wouldn't be any other better edition because all they would need to do is add new special features on the current release via BD Live. Of course, the only thing I recall they ever added (on release date, no less) was a data track with GPS info for where the scenes were taking place and vital stats (armor, energon, etc.) for the Transformers during the action sequences.

I think Top Gun in 3D is their only double dip on BD.

In other words, what you see is what you get and this is all Trek fans are ever likely to get.

I got the Target 2D version this morning. FYI, disc 1 contains only the movie, and all the features are on disc 2. The set is a 3-disc non-eco case. They had plenty of copies in a cardboard display located near the registers.

Yup. I am sadly inclined to agree.

Hell, remember when Brad Bird said they'd release a shifting aspect ratios version of M:i-GP if fans were really that upset about the current release? I'm glad I didn't hold my breath for that one.

FS does have better looking art that is for sure, but the Walmart is sufficient and was easy to get. thanks though.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Preorder Up (Fall 2013)

Not like it's a surprise, but just wanted to confirm that the 3D version is the same as mentioned above for the Target 2D edition. All non-exclusive featurettes are on the bonus disc with the exclusive ones making a 73 minute play-all making of.

Plus the 3 trailers.

Given the extra space on the movie disc it's a shame the commentary didn't make it to disc.

I'd almost bet the Target set may have, at one time, been planned as the mass release version until they tore it apart.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Preorder Up (Fall 2013)

A couple of things I'll go back to shortly, but before I forget to ask: Has anyone tried redeeming their Digital Copy? I want to know whether the Bill Hunt piece was right that Paramount is only letting you choose one of the two (iTunes or UltraViolet). I know when you enter the code, it'll ask you to choose between the two formats, but when I redeemed my Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol code, I chose UV from the main redemption page, and then entered the code directly in iTunes and both worked.

If you want both Vudu and Itunes digital copies from Paramount, you should redeem the UV version first through their website. Then open Itunes, click their generic redeem link, and enter the code there. That's how you get both.

I finished the BD today. Pic looked great, of course, but the audio was simply amazing. Easily one of the better, more aggressive mixes I've heard recently.

So you've successfully redeemed for both? Or are you merely affirming at large what I already described?

I have UV and Itunes copies of ST: Into Darkness, G.I. Joe 2, and Jack Reacher. The message I posted is EXACTLY how I was able to get them.

Thanks. I knew the process worked, but I wasn't clear that you had already used it for this specific release.

Why does it need your credit card information for something that's free...?

The Walmart ship is kind of cheap. Half metal, half plastic. I was hoping it would look a little better.

Anyone get the phaser from Amazon version?

Well then I suppose technically you could get the Target version and have all of the content, albeit in three different places.
