Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation (Jul 30, 2013)

I wanted the 3D version, so that left out the Extended Cut as an option. I went with the WM Steelbook over the Target bonus disc.

Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation (Jul 30, 2013)

I sent my wife to Best Buy to pick up the Extended Cut. I gave her my Reward Zone card and a $5 Upgrade & Save coupon that I'd gotten a couple days earlier. The disc was priced at $14.99. After U&S, they charged her... $14.99.

They took the U&S coupon and deducted nothing from the price. It even says right on the receipt: Upgrade and Save $0.00.

My wife wasn't paying attention to the price and didn't question it.

F***ing Best Buy. I will feel no pity when they eventually drive themselves out of business.

yeah, i think some titles aren't going automatically and get a pop-up screen. if the CS chooses to ignore then it won't get rung up correctly. they need to get an override for some strange, damn reason.

I'm confused. The disc is priced at $19.99, they charged you $14.99, what is the issue? The DOTD today is the DVD version for $14.99, is that what you are confusing it with?

I read his comment a few times and It didn't really make sense. It sounds like he thinks it was supposed to be $14.99 minus $5= $9.99 + tax

I bought it Tuesday and tag price was $19.99. Best Buy advertisement even says it's $14.99 with U&S coupon.

You got it for the correct price. The receipt, as far as I know, always says "Upgrade & Save $0.00". I don't have one in front of me, but it shows the coupon deduction under the title itself as "Promotion" or something like that then subtracts the $5.

Fyi, the extended cut blu-ray documentary has 6 parts. Reviews online say the regular blu-ray has 8 parts. The extended cut doesn't have Deployment or The Desert Attack.

When I went into Best Buy on Sunday, they had an endcap with preorder vouchers for the movie. It said that the Blu-ray was $14.99.

I didn't do the preorder, because you have to pick up items you get that way at the Customer Service desk, which always has at least a half-hour wait. (Only one disinterested teenager ever works that counter.) I didn't want to put my wife through that. I knew it would be faster for her to grab a copy off the shelf and go to the regular checkout line.

The receipt says:

BLU-RAY $14.99
UPGRADE & SAVE $5.00 COUPON $0.00
SUBTOTAL $14.99

Nowhere does it say anything about the Blu-ray being $19.99.

Now that's dumb. Were those scenes altered or cut from the extended cut or something?

I assume with that pre-order you put down $5 or something. I've never done one, so I have no idea how it works.

Here's a receipt of titles I got the other day.

The prices in store for these were $12.99 and $17.99, but this is what it looked like after the coupon was applied:

Spoiler:

It applies it to the price automatically, with the U&S promotion showing as $0.00.

The $14.99 price you are referring to was the pre-order price with $5 down. The price in this weeks ad indicated $14.99 after coupon.

Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation (Jul 30, 2013)

I don't understand where all the confusion is.

Don't you have to put down an amount (maybe $5) for Best Buy pre-orders?

That would make sense if they required $5 to be put down, making what you owe later equal to $14.99.

Even the Weekly Ad states clearly that the BD is $19.99

I read the sign, and I've preordered other items at Best Buy before (in order to get SteelBook incentives). Yes, their preorders require you to put a portion of the price down (usually $7). However, the signage for G.I. Joe Retaliation only said that the price was $14.99. It didn't say anything about being $14.99 plus an additional $5 down. I assumed that the deposit amount would come out of the $14.99, not on top of it.

Maybe the disc price really was $19.99 and they didn't rip my wife off. However, at the very least, the store's signage and advertising for this release is incredibly confusing and misleading.

Edit: I just fished the shrinkwrap that the disc came in out of the trash. Just to make things extra confusing, the price sticker says $29.99.

The extended cut was $19.99 before the coupon.

Re: G.I. Joe: Retaliation (Jul 30, 2013)

Does anyone know of any Paramount blu-rays that had the trailer for this on them?

In particular the one with Duke playing the video game and saying he's going to crawl his way to victory. I was sad this joke wasn't in the film itself.

Basically ignoring all the packaging & novelty differences on the various releases, as a completist someone would only need to get the Target 3D w/bonus disc & the Best Buy Extended Action Cut.... Unless someone found another release with other versions/content...

I've got the steelbook coming from a US friend but if you eventually want to get the extended cut, that cut seems to be the standard release here in the UK.
I was going to wait a while and get that when its reduced and then put it into the steelbook.

The way he talks about the characters, you'd swear he gives even less a shit about them than the execs that tried to derail ROC even more than it was (though I still enjoyed the finished result). Perhaps the interview misrepresents his thoughts but that's the vibe that comes across.

I still think they should have recast Duke rather than kill him off. And they should just bring him back and totally ignore his demise just as they totally ignored Storm Shadow's demise in ROC.

I disagree about the forgetting about Storm Shadows demise. If he had his head shopped off and he came back then I would have had a problem.
As he fell in frozen water its pretty obvious he will be back later.
