Distributor Sony Pictures Home Entertainment isn’t talking yet. But the basic story is right there on Amazon: It’s taking pre-orders for the first season of the 13-episode series produced by Media Rights Capital and starring Kevin Spacey that Netflix introduced in February. The complete House Of Cards season will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on June 11. Those who don’t want to pay Netflix’s $7.99-a-month streaming video subscription price, or who just want to own the series, can find the high-def version with a list price of $65.99 (Amazon’s offering it for $52.99) and the DVD for $55.99 (and is offered for $44.99). No word about extra features on the discs. But the site has 10 customer reviews following the series introduction on Netflix who give it an average of 4.4 out of 5 stars.
You can pre-order right now on Amazon

Price is a little high at $53. It will probably go down closer to release time.

Awesome. I was worried that some of these new netflix series would remain streaming only. I'll buy this for sure.

Just finished the season this week (I watched the first four eps the day it went live but got busy...). Really enjoyed it. Not sure I'll rush out to buy it as long as I've still got Netflix but I am glad to see this stuff isn't tied up as a netflix exclusive forever - especially since I'm a huge fan of Arrested Development

Comcast / TimeWarnerCable / DishNetwork business model is looking a lot more like a House of Cards since this series hit the web!

When Spacey gets an Emmy nod, we're going to see a lot more productions that bypass basic and pay cable. The Blu-ray better have tons of bonus materials, though, if they expect me to bite at that price.

Hence the push by Comcast and big telecom to try and privatize traffic over the internet - they see the horizon looming where they've lost control over distribution.

In this day and age, does anyone not watch or listen first before buying into a new series or band? This is a fine show, but I don't advocate buying much of any physical media anymore unless it proves itself to be more than mere entertainment for you (i.e., The Wire or Twin Peaks).
