John Carpenter's Vampires

I really like this movie and cannot believe it's not on BR. Any reason for this? Can't even stream it on HD on Netflix.

I've had the French import on Blu-ray for years now. It even has the JC commentary on there and it's region free.

The German Blu-ray has been out for quite a while. Don't know if it's region free or not. Get a region free player and the world of Blu-ray opens up.

Hey, neat-o idea, guys! Let's have a thread where we can lament certain titles that haven't be- oh, right. We have that.

Also, extra dick points for making me think this was an announcement.

Let's ban the motherfucker!!

Honestly though...ask a damn question over just saying the film title for a film that has yet to see US BD.

Re: John Carpenter's Vampires

Looks like this is getting another release. I didn't pick up the Twilight Time edition, so I'm down for this one.

Talk about being a Limited Release! I feel bad for all of you that paid 30 bucks for this. It just came out last Fall too!

Glad I didn't pay for the Twilight Time release. I enjoy the film but it wasn't worth $30 for a barebones disc. I'll definitely get this new version.

It wasn't bare bones. It had a commentary track, a making-of, and the original trailer, I believe.

Re: John Carpenter's Vampires

UPDATE: It's an Amazon screw-up. It's actually for a re-release (new price point) of the 20th Century Fox movie VAMPIRES SUCK on May 3rd.

Amazon has the correct studio, but the wrong year/actor info.

Re: John Carpenter's Vampires

Or it could be a re-release like Christine (another Sony title), and Amazon just got the studio wrong. Either way I put a preorder in just in case. I can always cancel later if needed.

I'm hoping it's like Christine. I wouldn't mind having that on Blu-ray. But not at TT's prices.

I'm a JC fan and already got my money's worth. NOW, for future reference, shit like this - I will no longer be going to TT for supposed limited items. Seems like they eventually make their way on the format either on the same label (Sony eventually releases it) or through Arrow Films, etc.

Ah. Well either way for what it was it was an overpriced release in my opinion. I just don't really care to support Twilight Time in general. I do hope that the release turns out to be something and not an Amazon screw up.

When Twilight Time licenses a movie, they get exclusive American distribution rights to it for 3 years. Vampires was just released this past October, which means that Sony can't reissue it under their own label until October 2018.

Then how come Christine was released by Sony within 2 years after TT released theirs? I actually don't know what agreements are in place, except that 3 year license.

My understanding was that Sony wanted it back, and since TT had already sold out their run, they traded for another Sony title either for the remainder of their license period or a new 3-year license. I don't know if they've said what the new title is, though.

I could be all wet, too.

The exclusivity agreement may have only been 2 years when Christine was licensed. The Twilight Time Blu-ray was released March 12, 2013 and the Sony Blu-ray on Sept. 29, 2015. So, a little over 2 years.

I don't know the specifics of their contracts, but I do know that Twilight Time has some exclusivity period. Given that Vampires was just released less than 6 months ago, it seems pretty unlikely that Sony would already be reissuing it under their own label now.
