Mad Max, the sci-fi franchise that introduced Mel Gibson to the world, will come together for the first time as a Blu-ray collection when Warner Bros. Home Entertainment (WBHE) debuts the Mad Max Trilogy on June 4th. The three films – Mad Max (1979), Mad Max Road Warrior (1982) and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) – are all set in the near-future in Australia. From the very first film, Oscar® winner George Miller (Happy Feet, 2006) proved a master at creating the gritty, bleak dystopian world and staging the incredible car stunts and crashes in the era when stuntmen, not computers, achieved the effects. All three movies starred Mel Gibson, virtually unknown until after the second film, as Max Rockatansky, a highway cop traveling through the Outback in a society descending into chaos. The films started Gibson on his road to international superstardom, led to his signature Lethal Weapon series, and later two Academy Awards® for his roles as producer and director of Braveheart (1995). This must-own collection for action fans is available in limited premium tin packaging and makes a perfect gift for Father’s Day. The collection will sell for $49.99 SRP on Blu-ray Disc™. Interesting. I'm in for this if the first two get new transfers. Otherwise, I have no interest in the Tina Turner movie.

Awesome news. I love all the Max films. Road Warrior still holds up as one of the most thrilling action films ever. I'll probably sell my Warrior blu and pick up this set if it retails for $30 or less.

if they are remastered, I MAY be in...but this is another situation (like Die Hard) that we have sequels coming, so most likely a bigger boxset will be coming down the road.

The new Mad Max movie is fighting an uphill battle in regards to being successful and considered part of the original series. If it's not great it's going to be eviscerated among the fanbase. Imagine how hated Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would be if some relatively-unknown actor (and no, Tom Hardy is not a household name) was playing Indy instead of Harrison Ford. |

My guess is that this will just be a repackaging of the first two films, with BEYOND THUNDERDOME added.
So, those of us who already own the first two (lackluster transfers!) will need to fork over another $50 to own the 3rd. Nice money grab. However if all 3 are newly remastered, I'm definitely in. Odds are very low. |

The Road Warrior is kind of OOP so this is good for those that don't already have a copy of it.

I'll pick up Beyond Thunderdome and Road Warrior when I see them for a good price to go along with my copy of the first film. I have no interest in the 3 film set.

Very happy they're selling Thunderdome by itself since I already have the first two.
In regards to the possibility of remastering, doesn't Warner Bros. have a history of just sticking the existing transfers into box sets and the like? Regardless, compared to the DVD releases, the current blu-rays of 1 & 2 are a revelation. |

I'm all for this set. Don't have the blu's yet, because I could only ever find Mad Max blu in the DVD case. Would love for the awesome classic covers, but they would never do that.

Obviously to cash in on the new movie. The third film isn't terrible, I've never seen the first, but the second is a flat-out masterpiece, one of the best action films ever made.
