Captain America (1990) coming from Shout Factory!

This sure surprised me! Shout Factory will be releasing the 1990 version of Captain America on Blu-ray on May 21, 2013. I assume/hope this means we'll finally get a widescreen version!

Will it be the director's cut, the theatrical cut, or both?

Captain America was the first film I was ever let down by. I loved comic books as a kid and was SO excited to see this in Blockbuster, rented it, and wow was it bad.

Has anyone seen the director's cut? Is it much better?

Surprised me in only that this was heavily discussed, then forgotten about. Guess this is back on again.

So the spine has the MGM logo so I assume it will be the theatrical cut. But who knows with Shout.

I thought that was entirely about Pyun's self-release of the director's cut, not a Shout Factory disc. Skimming through that thread again, I don't see any mention of Shout in there.

I meant only that the crappy 1990 version was being talked about again that it was going to be released.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... That movie was so bad, I remember them running teaser trailers for it in theaters months before it was supposedly going to be released. Then it all stopped. Then a while later it came out on video and I found out why. This was back when Marvel couldnt get ANY traction in the movie biz

It wasnt even one of them "so bad its good" type films either

I also remember renting in Blockbuster back in 1995 or so. Around 10 years old. I wanted to like it. I didn't hate it. But...I liked seeing Cap as a movie but goddamn was I bored by it after WWII. I was alright w/ it TILL the modern day.

This was during a time when characters were just licensed from Marvel to studios for making movies. This and the Fantastic Four that came about in that time were both horrible and so bad they were almost wonderful... FF has not seen the light of day on Home Vid and CA did get a MGM MOD DVD version (which I bought). I sure hope this Blu is an upgrade to better res and widescreen.. Yes, I will be buying this... not for the quality of story, acting, set, production, etc. But just because I actually enjoyed the crappiness of it..

It's basically the equivalent of a bad television movie, '80s style. SyFy did play it a few months back on television. My guess is that the Blu-ray will look horrible, Shout doesn't seem to be too picky about the quality of their video sources.

From what I remember this movie was pretty terrible. I couldn't imagine wanting to purchase the BD let alone a director's cut. Albert Pyun made alot of stinkers back in the 90's.

I remember when my dad brought this home from the video store in the early '90s. Boy was I excited. I thought it was awesome when I was little. Looking back on it now, it was pretty bad. The production values were awful.

I kinda remember the movie but only saw it once and can't remember my opinion of it since it was around 20 years ago. I kinda remember being disappointed and bored.

I recently bought this http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpgand sold it as soon as I watched both movies. My wife and 8 year old son laughed at me while watching it. I couldn't blame them. I remembered seeing it as a kid but it wasn't even worth the "so bad it's good" moniker.

I actually have those and enjoy them both. Even my kid likes the Shazam! episodes though he knows they are hokey. But those two Captain America movies are just plan awful and boring. Nothing redeemable about them whatsoever and no need to ever watch them more than once.

I can watch Land Of The Lost all day long. The greatest bad kiddie show of all time in my opinion.

MGM has a better track record than Universal, so I'm optimistic that Shout will have a good master on their hands.

Part of me wants to get this out of curiosity even though I know it's probably awful (at least going off the clips I've seen and the general consensus).

I forgot to mention the 1990 movie also had VHS and LD releases in the 90s. Rumor has it the MOD DVD is from the LD which had just better than VHS quality.... So those who just want to see the awfulnessdo have other options... I am hoping to snag this blu for $5 or less....

I wonder if it will include the Conan O' Brien spoofs

So bad it is good, in a very funny sort of way.
