Anyone else experiencing audio dropouts with the New Total Recall discs?
Hello Everyone. Long Time No Blab.
Hope all is well with you and the ones you care about.
Last night, I suddenly became visibly frustrated and then started feeling faint (from hyperventilating I presume) because these blasted audio interruptions just kept on coming every few minutes. I nearly 'frisbeed' the damn disc into the wall. Treesa had to hog tie me with bungee cords.
Oh well...That's what I get for buying this recall retread in the first place.
(But if it's any consolation: The babes are very sweet.)
What gives? I searched the InterWeb, but found a little more than squat regarding information on this one.
(Besides, I want expert counsel, so I came here.)
Please have pity, and throw a bone to an elderly otter.
I will sincerely appreciate your time spent visiting.
Thank you.
Paul

These audio dropouts are occurring on multiple players according to blu-ray.com members. Seems to be happening around the 1 hour mark. I haven't opened my copy yet. I hope it's a firmware cure and not a total disc recall.

It started happening within 15 minutes on my disc and then like every 5 or 10 after that.

No audio dropouts on my Panasonic BDT210.

From reading through the blu-ray.com thread, some of the affected players mentioned are the Sony BDP-S360 and 790, and someone with a PS3 Super Slim has also experienced the drop out. That's what I have.

I have an oppo 93 and an older Onkyo receiver and I am getting tons of drop outs. It is steadily getting worse.

A temp. workaround could be to turn off bitstreaming and let the player decode. That appears to be working for some.

Thanks Mr. C! (For all your help.)
I understand it's all we have and I tried that and although it stops the drops - it sounds like I have cotton in my ears.
Still no flying cars and now this.
It's a cryin' shame.

Oppo acknowledged the problem and said it would either be fixed from a new disc or firmware update.

I got the 2-disc version yesterday and played the Dolby TrueHD track of the Extended Edition on a PS3 Slim and Onkyo A/V receiver. I didn't notice the audio dropping out, but I definitely noticed an audio sync problem in the scenes leading up to and including the magnetic highway. This was after I had paused the film a few times. I read elsewhere that others have had the same issue after pausing the film. I re-started one of the chapters and that seemed to fix the problem, but what a joke. How does a studio release a disc with this issue? I don't think consumers should be forced to switch to PCM to solve the problem. The studio should do a total recall of these discs and then issue corrected replacements... like when Universal offered consumers the chance to exchange their Jurassic Park DVD's because the low frequency track in the first release was underwhelming.

I had them on a slim PS3. They would cause the audio to go out of sync as well. I exited playback and reentered and didn't have it any more.

I only noticed a "skip" just once and then like 5 seconds of audio being out of sync. After that nothing. Can't recall the scene either. PS3 slim.

I watched the Theatrical Version last night. Twice the audio dropped out and the audio immediately went out of sync. I hit rewind for a few seconds and when play resumed everything was fine. Very annoying.

Received the following reply from Sony:
Ended up calling and the have me on hold. It seems they had issued a few replacement discs before but they stopped because they apparently solved jack squat.
Dear _______,
Unfortunately we do not have any corrected discs. What is happening is the way your blu-ray player, in this case your PS3, is reading the audio and translating it to a speaker source that is not directly through your TV such as surround sound. To get rid of the audio drop outs you will need to play the audio directly through your TV speakers. We do apologize for any inconvenience.

So Sony's saying the consumer shouldn't enjoy the surround sound track included on the disc, and they should settle for hearing the movie in stereo. Nice. Funny how hundreds (thousands?) of other Blu-ray discs allow you to enjoy those films in surround sound without drop outs. Sure, it's the player's fault.

No director's cut and still has dropouts (albeit only one):

Unlike the video, however, I did detect a significant difference and marked improvement in the audio department. The previous release was plagued with a serious and highly irritating sync issue where the audio would inexplicably drop on numerous occasions. Some lucky owners of the disc were fortunate not to experience it, but it was apparent enough to warrant a recommended fix directly from Sony. I'm happy to report this time around, I didn't find it necessary to switch my player's settings from bitstream to PCM and encountered only one incident where the audio dropped, making it is easier to shrug off than before. I worry, though, based on that one incident, that others will continue to endure the same maddening issue and forced to switch the player's audio settings.

I made a similar comment when the guy on the phone suggested the same "workaround". He just apologized for the inconvenience and at least tried suggesting the stop-and-play method (which only works for a few seconds before the problem repeats). I'm surprised this didn't lead to a complete recall.
