Ever buy a Blu-ray again, by accident?

So it happened to me today. i never thought it would happen to me as i have a pretty good penchant for remembering what i have and sure enough i picked up Evil Dead 2 @ BB today for $4.99 with U&S, went to put it in DVD Profiler and it told me, sure enough, it was already in my collection.

of course, this was after i removed the shrink wrap so no returns are in order, but man, that is some stupid shit to buy a Blu or DVD again, by accident. i mean i only have like 300-400 of them compared to 1,000 plus DVD's and only once did that with them with Layer Cake.

ever happen to you?

I have never done that with a Blu-ray, but it has happened before with music, including an expensive OOP SACD! :doh:

Yep, more than once but I've learned to check my DVD Profiler database before removing the shrinkwrap. A couple I got on sale and rather than returning it, I just kept it to give a gift later on.

i think it has been the impulse of it all lately that with deals that are so good it just pushes me to get without thinking too much.

Send it to Decker, he hasn't seen it yet.

I have an app with my entire collection on the phone and it has come in handy when I needed to check if I have a title.

I use the blu-ray.com app to check whenever I get that feeling.

No, have a link to DvdProfiler.

It's never happened with a Blu-ray, but it has happened with a DVD. My DVD collection is nearing 6000 and I have a good recall of what's in it, but not perfect recall.

Which app is that?

Never with Blu-Ray.

It's happening once with DVD, where I was unsure if I had a certain film already. Since, I was unsure, I didn't buy it and double checked on my Excel spreadsheet later that day.

I have a duplicate copy of The Muppets. I had bought a copy when it first came out and then Disney Movie Club had it as their monthly featured selection and I somehow forgot to decline it. I kept meaning to send it back but ended up forgetting about it and just wound up keeping it.

I never have done this in my 16 years of collecting DVDs and now Blu-Rays.

I have a brain and picture to keep track of my movie collection.

Whoa! We can order up DVDTalk members now?

Can't say this has ever happened to me. Should anyone find themselves unknowingly buying a duplicate Blu-Ray/DVD/whatever, you can probably take that as a sign that you have too much crap, and should look into any or all of the following:

* Rethinking your buying habits
* Paring down your collection
* Watching what you've already goddamn purchased

I guess that applies to me way too often. I've probably rebought a couple dozen Blurays so far before I put my collection on dvdaf. I've got around 2,000 Blus and trimmed down the DVDs to around 1,000 now so I figure having only 20ish duplicates is pretty good. And I can always regift them later on.

Yes I have in a couple of times.

Because I bought online, usually its when the movie has more than one edition. Its stupid but thats what I did.

Haven't tried those, but I'd highly recommend this one: http://www.mymovies.dk/products/my-m...or-iphone.aspx. I downloaded it after accidentally rebuying a movie and it's a great app, though it's not free.

Re: Ever buy a Blu-ray again, by accident?

Never with BD, but once with DVD. Can't remember the title. That's when my collection was out of control and I would pick up any bargain title I saw if I thought I'd watch it once.

I will say I have found myself checking my collection on my iPhone to see if I have something while I'm in a store. Just happened the other day - I saw Good Morning, Vietnam at Target and couldn't remember if I bought it when it came out. I did.

This happened not so long ago...I bought Gremlins 2 via Columbia House during their big sale a few months ago, and a month or so later bought it at Best Buy for $4.99.

i wish one of those great my movie apps let you import an already established .dpb file that you can create as backup in DVD Profiler.

Even with a few thousand DVDs/blu-rays, that has never happened to me. I don't have a database or anything either.
