The 2012 Simon West directed action sequel “The Expendables 2” starring Sylvester Stallone is coming to Blu-ray Disc on November 20th via Lionsgate. The film co-stars Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Tech specs for this release are really interesting as they include full 1080p Hi-Def video in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio with DTS Neo:X 11.1 and DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio. This, as far as I know, is THE FIRST Blu-ray Disc release to get the DTS Neo:X 11.1 treatment. This should be really awesome for those on the proper AV receivers and speaker systems to decode this. The release will come with both a Digital Copy and an UltraViolet digital copy of the film. The title is available for PRE-ORDER over at Amazon with a $27.99 price tag. The bonus materials set to be included on the release are listed below.
Audio commentary with director Simon West
“Gods of War: Assembling Earth’s Mightiest Anti-Heroes” featurette
“Big Guns, Bigger Heroes: The 1980’s and the Rise of the Action Film” featurette
“On the Assault: The Real-Life Weaponry of The Expendables” featurette
“Guns for Hire: The Real Expendables” featurette
Deleted Scenes
Gag Reel
Further below after the break you’ll find the trailer for the film.

Considering how horrible the sound was in theaters, I doubt a a DTS Neo:X flag will do anything to improve matters. This needs to be remixed from the gound up.
That issue notwithstanding, this film was tons of fun and a day one purchase for me.

Yeah, Lions Gate was first out with 7.1 mixes on their BDs, they were lacking to say the least.

this wasn't even released in the theaters in 7.1 - ugh.... I thought Lionsgate was done re-mixing their films for their bluray editions?

I'll be picking this one up. Maybe I need to see it again, but I recall liking it a bit more than the first.

DTS Neo:X is a decoder processing algorithm, like Dolby ProLogic. It's not a Blu-ray audio format. The soundtrack on the disc will be encoded in DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1. It's possible that the mix may be embedded with matrixing cues that will help the decoder steer the audio around, but it will not be discrete 11.1, which is not supported by Blu-ray.

I wonder if they'll clean up the image. Looked ugly as fuck at times...and this time Mickey Rourke wasn't even in the movie. Great fucking intro...the rest is a lot of ups and downs for me.
Those features are kind of weak. I want a feature length making of like the first one had. That was great watch.

I can barely fit a 5.1 setup in my smallish livingroom space. I've no idea how I'd manage to put in an additional 6 speakers (and I doubt this film's pisspoor sound design would compell me to try).

I can't imagine needing 11 speakers to watch a movie. I didn't even know this setup existed.

Lots of people lost their heads making this movie, so I will honor them by doing a "Day 1" purchase.

Day 1 for me, this was probably only behind the Avengers as the most "fun" I had in theaters all year.

You'd need a Pre-Pro and separate amps (preferably monoblocks) to power such a system.
Not at all. As Josh Z stated (and the picture I posted illustrates), it's just a flag to tell the DTS Neo:X decoder to derive the additional 4 channels. There aren't 11.1 discrete channels on the disc. Only 7.1 channels.

Didn't get a chance to see this in theaters, so I'll probably pick this up.

I liked the first film, but didn't see the second one in the theater, is this a good blind buy?
