I didn't see this covered here yet, but I had ordered Cabin in the Woods BD off Amazon, and saw something about the iTunes digital copy it comes with being for either the HD or SD version... upon further research it looks like Hunger Games, Jaws, and all newer HBO "select" BD's come with the option of downloading the digital copy in HD.

We have an Apple TV 3 in our home, so this is pretty awesome news for us. Have I missed something, or this becoming the new trend?

Yeah, the last two digital copies I redeemed on iTunes, (Jaws & Hunger Games) came with 3 separate files: HD Version, SD version, and extras.

I'm assuming it's going to be standard for iTunes digital copies going forward.

This is great news! I posted about this when i got an ipad 3 and saw all my digital copies look like crap. Glad to hear the times are finally changing.

Really happy about full HBO seasons too. Glad I waited for Boardwalk Empire, the re-release will have the HD iTunes copies.

There are lots of new movies out there that says in itunes: "When purchased, this movie will not be availabe from iTunes in the cloud." (check Cabin in the Woods for instance).
Does that mean, if I buy a blu ray with a digital copy, I can't watch it on my apple tv? Or share off multiple devices like an ipad?
Or when it says "when purchased" does it simply mean, if you purchase it from itunes, not use a digital copy code.
If I can watch it on apple tv, how do i do that?

Let's hope some of the upcoming releases like Avengers, Spiderman, Batman, etc are in HD digital copy

I remember asking for this years ago and people thought it was ridiculous. Good to see it is a trend, I have a few myself now.

Hunger Games is available in HD to watch from the cloud. I can't speak to any others though.

I can confirm Titanic and The Avengers were both SD only.

It's weird that they'd do a few with HD and then stop...

Avengers is a disc based digital copy, so I was going to blame it on that, but I have no idea if Titanic was on a disc or a download.

I am trying to use one of these for the first time with Boardwalk Empire Season 2. It has Vudu, Ultraviolet, and iTunes, but I don't use those and would really like to get it on Amazon - anyone able to do that for this one?

Titanic was a download.

Buena Vista/Disney is the only studio left still supplying digital copies on an actual disc. The other studios have ditched them.
