I'm a year behind cuz of my most previous (and very extended) situation. I've about 30 or so titles I want to get. I'll bounce back somewhat in the next sale. Only got 3 this time.

Only got 3 as well this time.
30 Steps
Gimmie Shelter
Last Days Of Disco.
Already watched 39 Steps and Last Days, so I feel like this sale has actually been a success (even though I hated 39 Steps) since the point is to watch these, not just collect them.
I would have bought more but an inventory of my Criterions put the unwatched number over 50- that's way too much money to have tied up in stuff I'm not actually using and enjoying or planning to use and enjoy anytime soon. There are about 50 or 60 other titles I would rather spin on any given night than Solaris or Senso. I do want to see them someday, but a lot of the stuff I've bought in these sales is feeling more like work than entertainment.

I understand his quote to mean that he purchased those 3 movies for this sale and he's gotten around to watching two of his three purchases.
This.
Bought 39 steps, watched it, hated it.
Not This.

I will say that I upgraded the 39 Steps without having really researched the new transfer, and was disappointed. For being such an early release on DVD by Criterion you'd think this Blu-ray would have been a bigger step up. It's not bad or anything, I just wish they had found a much better print in all those years- or done more restoration work on the current one. It was almost like watching the original DVD.

39 Steps was actually the one title I was most anxious to get.
I'd watched it 10-15 (maybe more) years ago and remembered liking it quite a bit. Now, seeing the same contrivances show up again and again in Hitchcock's work, it all just rubbed me the wrong way.
IIRC, I originally saw it before either Saboteur or North By Northwest, and at this point I prefer the other two in their handling of this kind of premise (wrong man on the run-with girl, out to stop spies) though both of those films also suffer the usual Hitchcock nonsense of 'ruthless adversaries' who have no problem coldly and efficiently dispatching the supporting cast, while at the same time giving their most dangerous opponent (the lead actor) every opportunity to live and frustrate their goal through one inefficent death trap after another.
Donat is just not as interesting or likable to me as Cummings or Grant, so the film was a tough slog this time.

I picked up
Le Cercle Rouge
Carlos
Shallow Grave
The Samurai trilogy
I'm still pondering Anatomy of a Murder and Branded to Kill.

Unqualified recommendation for Anatomy of a Murder. Though as an attorney who LOVES jazz, perhaps I'm a little biased. That being said, this film can be enjoyed by anyone and is one of the great Jimmy Stewart performances.
I actually discovered the film after first hearing Ellington's soundtrack, which is fantastic.

Only picked up Godzilla (couple days later two more copies were on the shelf) and Wages of Fear. Always wanted the latter so very excited to have the blu.

Pretty much just the past couple months' worth of Criterions, which I held off on buying in anticipation of the sale. I'm pretty gosh darn nerdy, so I already have all their other BDs.

I didn't think I'd be able to grab anything, but at the last second I decided to pick up The Gold Rush and Godzilla

Great sale. The 3-hour overlap was epic and will be highly speculated/anticipated come November.

I grabbed:
The 39 Steps
The Lady Vanishes
on Bluray
On DVD:
David Lean Directs Noel Coward
Summer With Monika
Three Popular Films by Jean-Pierre Gorin
I wanted much more, but this is a big year of travel and celebrations in my family, so discretionary income is limited.

Squeaked one more order in this morning with minutes left for Certified Copy.
Could have saved $2 if I'd hit the store yesterday when I was out, but I was worried I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation to pick up more than that.
Four titles total for me this sale- and even better I've watched 4 others from the unwatched pile while the sale was going on. This was still the lightest haul I've ever made in these sales. Feels good to not overindulge for a change.

Ended up with:
Being John Malkovich
World on a Wire
Harold and Maude
Godzilla
Zazie dans le metro
The Magician
Samurai Trilogy
A lot more than I had planned on picking up, but that's okay.
