So, does anyone know how this will be actually packaged inside? I can't stand releases with sleeves instead of hubs. I don't care about scratch-resistant claims, better than dvd doesn't mean they should be sliding in and out a lot. I worry about LOST no matter how careful I am and sitcoms tend to get played more often because you don't really have to pay close attention to every single episode to follow the story. These will likely come in and out of the sleeve far more than the Alien set or BTTF set which I also worry about.

Yes, it's a lenticular cover. No hubs...book format with sleeves. Probably similar to what WB did with the SMALLVILLE DVD complete series.

I've heard people say their Smallville dvds came new already scratched. I had that problem with the Freaks and Geeks yearbook twice and I sent them my discs and they sent me brand new ones. I still don't keep those discs in the yearbook.

I know all about scratch resistant, but this is not great, especially for 21 discs. I'm going to hope the UK set has hubs and is totally region free, otherwise, I'll just have to stock up on Tums which I use every time I get out my Lost set.

Whether or not Sony has given up on TV-on-Blu doesn't come in to play when it's Seinfeld. The series is already cleaned up, and it's the most popular sitcom of all-time. Aren't the DVDs the best-selling TV-on-DVD sets ever?

I read a number of years ago they were working on cleaning up the series in its entirety before they released but now that they did that it's just a matter of when.

I watch the HD Re-runs nearly every night and they look pretty darn good.

It's probably one of the few "sitcoms" I'd ever consider buying on Blu-ray. Repeat value is just amazing.

Agreed. Seinfeld I would think would be a pretty hot seller for Sony if they released it. I'm thinking if Friends does well enough Sony will take a chance and release Seinfeld to Blu-ray shortly afterwards.

I would like to get this, but the price is way beyond what I'm willing to spend. $50-$70 is about as high as I would go.

$5 to $7 is all you would pay per season? I've seen several on here putting their ceiling to buy this at about $50. I'll bet this gets Sony fired up to get Seinfeld rolling on blu. -rolleyes-

A 25 pack of quality blank BD-50s will cost you more. This Friends series is what, 21 discs?

I took a set of keys to a BD to test it out. Yeah, you don't have to worry about some cardboard sleeve.

I once had a discussion with a video store employee who claimed he tried to scratch a blu-ray on purpose once and never managed it. But I've also seen people complaining that their Kubrick set was unplayable as soon as they took their disc out...

Id pay 300 bucks for an awesome/fun set for Seinfeld. The fridge set is one of the coolest things on the shelf.

Exactly. The Complete Series has been out for how many years now? And it's still going to cost you around $100 to get it. I don't think spending $200 (which is about what it will be online) for the Blu-ray set is an insane asking price. Heck, I'm paying $200 to get the James Bond movies this fall, and that's a lot less material that 10 seasons of FRIENDS.

Was Friends shot in 16:9 Letterbox? I've only seen the late night re-airs on my local CW affiliate and it's always in 4:3 SD. Someone here mentioned the TBS re-airs are in HD. Is that able to be done because the show was shot on film?

And I agree that Lamphorn's comment is fricking ridiculous, especially for a BD re-mastered complete series set. I'm not a huge fan of this show, but I would definitely pay 20-30% off MSRP for a premium product like this. With that type of mentality on only wanting to pay bargain basement, closeout prices, it's not wonder that so many quality series are getting the shaft on DVD let alone BD.

I'm hoping Warner Brothers eventually puts out all 15 seasons of ER on BD as well. I'm sure that will be alot more than $250. I would purchase that in a heartbeat.

Friends was shot on Super35MM and had the sides cropped off when it aired initially. WB just put the sides back on and framed it accordingly.

Do some quick math, and you're talking about 50% more seasons and episodes twice as long. That would be oh so expensive but oh so :drool:

I'm glad to hear there is a benefit to actually upgrading to BD, other than the picture quality itself. But damn, do I really need to buy Friends again? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the show. It's in my top 10 sitcoms of all time, but I just hate paying a lot of money to upgrade something I may not watch many times. I'll have to join the folks that say $50 is my pricepoint. I just can't justify upgrading for much more than that. Perhaps I'd bite at $70, but certainly not more than that... I forked out a lot for the wooden box set I got with the swinging doors, so don't want it to become worthless.

Not a fair comparison because many of the Bond films in that box set have not been released individually yet... It is easier to spend $200 on something you don't already own (or in this case, own 50% of).

I'm not saying Friends on BD isn't worth $200. For anyone who doesn't own all of the seasons on DVD, they shouldn't hesitate to buy this BD set. But to fork out $200 for something I already own, just to get it in HD, is not worth it to me, personally... I realize this set will never hit $50, barring a price glitch, or the release of the 4K Super HD Plus Red-Ray players (ie, the next gen players), but we can still dream...

The TBS airings are horrible they're just unconverted and stretched. The HD airings on Nick at Nite look great, unfortunately they speed it up, I'm assuming to fit in more commercials, so the voices are screwed up.
