Hatfields & McCoys Blu-ray -- 7/31/12

Got an e-mail announcing that the "Hatfields & McCoys" mini-series is set for release on July 31st. No other info was in the e-mail about features.

Blu-ray.com lists 2 extras. Kind of a wasted oppotunity for something they clearly spent some time and money on. Great series so far.

Sony's Blu-ray presents the five-hour television program in its 1.78:1 broadcast aspect ratio with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The disc also contains the following supplements:
  • The Making of Hatfields & McCoys featurette
  • "I Know These Hills" music video featuring Kevin Costner and Modern West

It's not quantity but quality so hopefully that featurette is multi-part and in-depth. Not counting on it, but who knows.

Yeah, but it's the History Channel, there's plenty of opportunity to throw on some of the stuff they've shown before. But it looks like it'll be it'll be lax in both quantity and quality. I'm hoping the featurette is good at least. I can do without the Kevin Costner music video though.

Damn. I was hoping for a 2nd disc filled "making of" documentaries and documentaries about the actual feud.

Yeah, that would make this purchase extra special. But i'm getting it anyway. Loved the series. I didn't miss a minute of it.

Ehh so-so show. I wonder if this was editied different than what they were hoping for when shot, Perry Cline was the one who got the McCoy side going in th fued but the series just left it in passing as the Lumber right's.

There was a pretty good 2 hour documentary that the History Channel showed right before they aired the miniseries called, America's Greatest Feud (or something like that) that was narrated by Costner. I would have thought that would have been a no-brainer to include on the DVD/Blu-ray release.

Wonder if it'll be on a second disc for a store exclusive...

It was a very good documentary and deserves to be paired with the film on BD.

Is the 2nd disc just special features? There's no reason to rent the 2nd disc if you just want to watch the show right? Netflix labels the 2nd disc as "the conclusion of the miniseries"

isn't the video release a slightly longer cut of the mini-series.

No. It's the original broadcast version with all the footage and cussing intact. Repeat showings cut down a few scenes and removed the cussing. That's probably why some folk think the BD version is longer.
