Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

Disney no longer have the license for Princess Mononoke.

Hopefully, maybe studio like Lion Gates can get the right to release it here on blu-ray.

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

If Disney doesn't have the license for Princess Mononoke, then why is their DVD still in print?

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

Even though they've gotten fair reviews, I almost bought the UK Ghibli releases.

Glad to see Howl's & Totoro coming in May! I'll hold off.

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

Special Features are announced for Totoro and Howl US discs.

Totoro:
-Original Japanese Storyboards
-Original Japanese Trailer
-Behind the Microphone
Behind the Studio featurettes:
-Creating My Neighbor Totoro
-Creating the Characters
-The Totoro Experience
-Producer's Perspective: Creating Gibli
-The Locations of Totoro
-Scoring Miyazaki

Howl:
-Original Japanese Storyboards
-Original Japanese TV Spots and Trailers
-Behind the Microphone
-Interview with Pixar Animation Studios Director Pete Docter
-Hello Mr. Lasseter: Hayao Miyazaki Visits Pixar Animation Studios

Looks like the UK discs have a bit more extras than the US. The opening/closing credits textless sequences from Totoro aren't on the US disc, while the Dianna Wynn Jones interview, the CG featurette, and the newly created retrospective on the sounds of "Howl's moving castle" aren't on the US disc.

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

"The Wind Rises" and "Spirited Away" will have Japanese and English language options (and more) while "Lupin" will only have Japanese.

"The Wind Rises" will have Storyboards, Script, Trailers, Music Video, Press Conference.

"Spirited Away" will have no new extras. Just Storyboards, Script, Trailers, So even less than the current US DVD.

"Lupin The Third" will have Storyboards, Script, Trailers.

Yes, they are. But looking at your Criterion link, I assume you can playback region A releases anyway...

I had no idea Japan releases were region A!

Any idea why Porco Rosso would be missing from that set? Or are the titles not all pictured? (I just saw it seems to say 13 discs but only 10 images at the bottom)

ETA: Just read that it includes Porco Rosso and 2 bonus discs. However, at over 750$, I'm afraid I'll have to pass.

I'm assuming that like most Japanese releases, there won't be English subtitles?

$750?! How does anyone in Japan afford anything?! Good lord!

First post answers it, but yes English subtitles (with the exception of Lupin)

Re: Studio Ghibli in HD

It said English audio, I didn't know if it had the subtitles as well. Why they're omitted on Lupin, who knows.
