Paramount 100 years collection

Paramount is celebrating their 100 year anniversary, just like Universal has done. They've put several of their BDs in slipcovers that open up with historical facts about their studio and movies.

At Best Buy, I opened up one BD, but didn't get a good look at all the titles. The few I saw were:

The Naked Gun
Airplane
Footloose
The Godfather

Hopefully they celebrate the year with BD releases of The Talented Mr. Ripley, Sunset Boulevard, Terms of Endearment, The Longest Yard, among others.

Many, if not all, of these are shown as Best Buy Exclusives..

Universal has been including some special features tied in with the 100-years theme in addition to the packaging. That, of course, is not even mentioning the HD remastering. Is Paramount doing anything like this or is it just packaging?

I believe this is the full list of titles as of now:

Airplane
American Beauty
Braveheart
Ferris Buellers Day Off
Footloose
Forest Gump
Gladiator
Godfather, The
Major League
Naked Gun, The
Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Saturday Night Fever
Saving Private Ryan
Ten Commandments, The
Top Gun
Wayne's World

I saw these today on a special end cap. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was on sale for $14.99. It's $5 cheaper than the other version with the lenticular cover.

Re: Paramount 100 years collection

So, Paramount celebrates their centennial not with the unveiling of any classic catalog titles, but merely by repackaging previous titles with new slipcases. Who needs Sunset Blvd, Shane, or A Place in the Sun, when you can enjoy the cinematic glories of Major League, now with a self-congratulatory cardboard slipcover?

Yep.

All you need to do is go over to any of the slipcover threads and I guarantee they're all salivating over the chance to re-buy another disc with some super-duper slipcover. People who collect packaging are the only ones that the studios can jack now that overall collecting has slowed down

 It's probably close to the truth knowing that bunch of crazies. It'd be nice if we'd get some more big announcements from Paramount since it is a landmark year for them. Sounds like mostly just re-releases of pre-existing discs thus far though.

Yeah, I was just thinking that all you needed to do was go to the forum at Blu-ray.com where nearly every thread seems to turn into a slipcover discussion to some degree.

I'm assuming he meant to type 25 cents instead of 25 dollars.

I picked up Planes, Trains and Automobiles today from Best Buy for $9.99 with the $5 upgrade and save trade-in.

I would guess at least 80% of our threads include the "does it come with a slipcover?" question.

I was just thinking the same thing.

So is it the old versions under the slipcover...or do you get those horrible 100th anniversary logos and border (that cover up 20 percent of the cover) on the inside as well?

These are the exact same discs inside, right? No new remasters on any of these? Paramount could learn a thing or two from Universal about celebrating their centenial.

A/V Junkie - can you take a couple photos of the inside?

Based on the three I've purchased (Beverly Hills Cop, The Untouchables, and War of the Worlds, these releases are simply just a re-release with a shiny red slipcover. My theory is Paramount didn't even consider releasing these centennial editions until Universal started releasing theirs, otherwise the two biggest catalog releases they've done this year (To Catch a Thief and Chinatown) would have contained these red slipcovers.

"100 YEARS OF MOVIE M_______S"? Is the missing word "misfires"?
