Early HD Transfers Still Look Great!

I was watching Serenity on HDDVD for the first time this afternoon and it still looks amazing 6 years after it was released. This title was apparently the very first Universal launch title back in 2006.

When you think back to the very first DVD titles in 1997 and compare them to the transfer quality of titles in 2003, there was a huge improvement over that six year period.

Yeah, telecine quality improved by leaps and bounds during DVD's heyday. By 2006 they were doing pretty good transfers, at least when they weren't screwing them up with DNR and EE. I suppose Serenity was a recent one they did right.

Throughout the BD era, new titles have looked great, for the most part. The catalog titles have been hit or miss, often depending on when they were done and how well.

All D-VHS tapes predate HD-DVD, and they still look great too. I haven't seen any that look particularly bad, and I actually prefer less digital clean-up of dirt and stuff like that which was on the original negatives.

Most of the early HD titles were stunning. Serenity is one, Batman Begins, Apollo 13 is better than the BD release, The Thing, also better than the BD release. Click was an early BD release used for demo and it looks great
