I doubt the retail sculpt and paint job will look that good.

I'll just stick with whatever regular edition they put out.

Allow me to start bitching now on how they'll probably screw us like they did with the first season by releasing the set, then the "special edition" set just a few months after. Asses.

See. that would be cool for a complete series box. But a single season it seems excessive.

Sorta cool but I don't like the show enough to spend that amount on it or the space to store that. I haven't even watched season two yet so if anything I'll just get the regular edition.

I can't read. Damn! I don't know how I missed that the first time. I went back and read the original article and didn't see the price mentioned either. Cool little bust but a tad bit too expensive for me.

The DVD/BD comes out August 28th. If you don't want the fancy toy in the OP, the artwork is on the link.

I really wish they would be more specific about the special features beyond "making of featurettes"

IIRC, the title of one of the featurettes is a very big spoiler for the season.

I may give it a chance. I watched the first season as it aired, and while I liked it (to a point, anyway), it didn't really leave me with a heavy desire to keep watching. And during the first half of Season 2 (which I never did watch), I kept hearing the complaints about it not moving along, which kinda confirmed my decision not to watch. Reading your review has me considering taking a look...

Re: The Walking Dead: Season 2 Special Edition

I had no problem with it, because while a lot of folks were harping on the one reason for it being slow, there was another reason that made sense for them to do what they were doing. I'm being vague for spoiler reasons...

I'm going to buy it. With the seasons as short as they are, they will make for good marathon viewing.

Re: The Walking Dead: Season 2 Special Edition

i really want to buy this but like somebody pointed out, they'll probably re-release it.

i guess, i'll buy it and if they re-release it, i'll just add the re-release to my collection.

what i don't understand is why does that picture show season 1 (special edition) instead of season 2? does anybody have pictures of season 2?

Re: The Walking Dead: Season 2 Special Edition

After the ridiculousness of the double dipping of season one, I'm waiting until I'm sure they're not going to do the same for Season 2 before I buy anything.

I'll try to be spoiler-friendly here too.

It makes sense to a point because Hershel's farm is meant to feel safe. They'd either have to deliberately put themselves in harm's way week in and week out to keep a big number of zombie attacks going, or they'd have to have so many of the undead in/around the farm that there'd be no reason for them to see it as a sanctuary.

I'm all for those gigantic "oh shit!" moments when the show's overrun by zombies, but the one-on-one encounters tend to be a hell of a lot more unnerving, and there's a lot more of that in the first half of the season. "Claustrophobia" gets me more than "sheer numbers". I also feel like holding things back somewhat in episodes 2 through 6 makes the end of the first half a hell of a lot more effective. Of course, marathon viewing means you also get through that middle stretch in three and a half hours instead of it dragging on for a month and a half. The momentum's easier to maintain in a marathon.

At the same time, if you were to tell me that Frank Darabont had a plan for episode 1 and a plan for episode 7, and everything in between was just kind of filler to get to that point, I'd probably believe you. (Even though Darabont was ousted very early on, the first 7 scripts were apparently all written while he was a part of the show.)

Even shows I love struggle somewhat when I watch a truly ridiculous number of episodes in one day, but I watched all thirteen episodes of The Walking Dead's second season in basically one sitting, and it played great for me.

I agree that the double dip last time was ridiculous, but I'm skeptical there'll be a re-release for this one. There are tons of extras.

A better reason to wait is that it's Anchor Bay, and their Blu-ray discs plummet in price faster than anyone else's. I'd full expect to be able to buy it for under $30 by the end of the year, if not by Halloween.

I was going to go ahead and buy this release, the reviews say it has a good number of extras, and I havent seen the second half of the season yet.

Re: The Walking Dead: Season 2 Special Edition

Just finished Season 1 and 2 this weekend. I never thought I'd like a show about zombies, but I'm definitely hooked! I was surprised at how slow Season 1 moved when I first watched it. I guess I was expecting a silly, fast-paced action series along the lines of the Resident Evil movies. Looking back, I'm glad it wasn't that way. It's so much better than that. It's definitely a character-driven drama rather than an action/adventure series. And that's a good thing because it makes each death more meaningful. Season 2 had its slow parts too, but I enjoyed it much more than Season 1.

As for double-dipping on the Season 1 DVD/blu-ray, you might be interested to know...

Someone on Amazon left a one-star review for the Special Edition of Season 1 because they claim it's edited. They specifically mention that the scene where Rick and Greg walk down the city street covered in guts so they don't attract the dead has been shortened. I don't know if this is true, but if it is, be glad you bought the regular edition of Season 1. And if it's true, it could be a reason to avoid a future Special Edition of Season 2.

Apparently, for some reason, if you choose the "Play All" option you get the edited UK TV cuts. If you play the episodes individually you get the original unedited U.S. versions.

Well, at least the unedited cuts are in there somewhere. That's good news for anyone who bought the 3-disc set.

Re: The Walking Dead: Season 2 Special Edition

I didn't purchase the screwdriver head edition, but I've been watching Season 2 (I just finished "Nebraska") and have to say these episodes really hold up when viewed back to back...what seemed slow/drawn out on a weekly basis plays much better when you can watch the episodes together. The commentary tracks are really well-done as well.
