Blu-Ray firmware updates

How do firmware updates on Blu-Ray players work? Do you download the software, put it on a disc, and put it into the player, or is there another way?

If your player has a USB port, you can slap the update on a flash drive and do it that way.

The easiest way is hooking the player up via the ethernet port to your router.

What does your owner's manual say?

Couldn't find anything in the manual with regard to that. However, I was able to get it done by putting it onto a CD and putting it in and running it that way. I think that's how I'll do it from now on.

Speaking of this, will there ever be a new profile? I remember when 2.0 came out that was a huge deal.

Or via Wi-Fi if your player has that capability. Just about all Blu-ray players these days have networking capabilities.

Interesting that it's not addressed at all in the manual. I wonder how they would expect a consumer to know that firmware updates even exist? I guess they want people to call their tech line... for $5 an hour.

Blu-ray 3D is Profile 5.0:
