None of the theaters around me have gotten this one yet but I'm going to blind buy it. I'm a Clooney fan and will see mostly anything he's in anyways and the fact that it's been pretty highly acclaimed warrants a purchase for me.

It's a very good movie. A better barometer of whether or not you'd like it, however, might be what you think of Alexander Payne's other movies (Citizen Ruth, Election, About Schmidt, and Sideways). It definitely feels like an "Alexander Payne" movie, whereas George Clooney's filmography is kind of all over the place.

I missread the thread title as The Descendants 3 and got real confused.

Walmart is still showing March 13, although I don't think we have an official announcement. Great price at $19.96.

I was thinking there's no way I'd want to go through the emotions again, but there are moments I'd like to revisit so I probably will get it.

Were people that emotionally impacted by this film? I took it as a dark comedy. I didn't find it depressing or sad at all (yes, not even the "goodbye" scene between Clooney and his character's wife).

I agree with this. Prior to The Descendants, I'd seen About Schmidt and Sideways and had a slightly-warmer-than-lukewarm reaction to both. My reaction to The Descendants was basically the same. It was a well-executed movie, but I didn't love it nor did I connect with it very much at all. I think that's just the way it is for me with Payne's movies.

I thought the theatrical poster was wonderful in the subtext of George's character being in the foreground, yet looking back at his daughters. You got a lot of information from just the poster. The video cover has him pretty much ignoring his daughters and he almost looks angry. IMO, a horrible decision by the marketing team. I doubt it will affect sales, but still...
