Monty Python and the Holy Grail--3/6/2012 from Sony

Blu-ray.com indicates a 35th anniversary edition (perhaps a bit late?) of Monty Python and the Holy Grail is to be released on March 6.

"In March, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the 35th Anniversary Edition of Monty Python and the Holy Grail on Blu-ray. This classic comedy filters King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table's epic search for the Holy Grail through the absurdist sensibilities of the Monty Python's Flying Circus troupe.

"Far from a traditional hero's journey, the quest - as depicted in the film - shows Arthur (Graham Chapman, Monty Python's Life of Brian) beset at all turns by dangers such as cow-catapulting Frenchmen, the dreaded Knights who say Ni, the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog, and the beyond-tenacious Black Knight.

"Sony's Blu-ray/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack presents the film in its 1.66:1 original aspect ratio with a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio track. The disc also contains a number of bonus supplements, including:

Commentaries by Terry Gilliam & Terry Jones, plus general complaints and back-biting by John Cleese, Eric Idle & Michael Palin
Join Michael Palin and Terry Jones in their special documentary The Quest For The Holy Grail Locations

Shocked it's taken this long, given the 57 releases it had on DVD.

One of my most favorite films I might not upgrade from DVD...

Unless they decide to put the full Japanese audio track on there, lol. Still have my Criterion edition for that alone!

Anything missing from the previous DVD releases? I don't see the trailer mentioned.

Very positive review from blu-ray.com. Was a bit miffed about one of the special features though...

Jesus Christ, Sony, why make it so complicated? And not everyone has an iPad...just put it on the damn disc!

Those screenshots actually look... good. Surprising. I always thought this was shot on 16mm film found in the rubbish bin behind Tesco.

If there's any studio that can be counted on to do the best they can with whatever the film elements will allow, it's Sony. They try to reproduce the picture with fidelity to the source, whatever that source may be. I can honestly say I've never been seriously disappointed with a Sony catalog release. Wish I could say the same for all catalog BDs.

Eric Idle was on Craig Ferguson a few days ago and was very excited about the blu-ray release.

....I'd have to agree. They do a damn fine job.

The Thirteenth Floor. But that's nitpicking, and you're absolutely correct. If I were ranking 'em all, it'd be Sony at the top and Universal on the bottom.

Edit - oops, and Josh reminded me about Ghostbusters. Still, their overall hit-to-miss ratio is Best in Class.

Split the Ghostbusters stuff off into the original thread.

Silly boy, doncha know that pretty much the entire entertainment industry has bent over for the Apple insertion. Gee, if you haven't gulped your share of the kool-aid, well, ya just ain't with it. -rolleyes-

Any comments on how the a/v quality compares to the DVD?
