I'm going to wait for one of their sales instead of preordering it. This would have been one of my first TT Pre-order in years but not going to pay their regular price for the inferior version of DM. That cover is brutal along with the lack of extras.

I'm also not bothered by the cut if Eureka decides to release it Region Free.

Looks like TT got the rights of Wild Bill. May have to go that route unless some one like Cruzon in the UK get the rights. Outside of the isolated score it's barebones here.

March titles:

UNDERWORLD USA (1961) BLU-RAY - March 20th

DON’T BOTHER TO KNOCK (1952) BLU-RAY - March 20th (Brand New 2K Transfer)

THE SEVEN UPS (1973) BLU-RAY - March 20th (Brand New 4K Transfer)

It would be nice if TT was able to port over the excellent supplements package from the U.K. edition for The Seven-Ups, but I guess we'll see.

Looks like TT did indeed port over everything from the U.K. edition and tossed in TWO isolated scores. Nice.

Damn. :(

I had no idea he was ill. I wonder what this means for the label. It's a pretty small company, I believe.

Is Twilight still popular?

Most of the movies like Sleepless in Seattle and Fright Night were eventually released by the studios that made them.

It’s happened a few times, sure, but nowhere remotely close to “most”.

That sort of thing is less likely now because those higher profile titles are winding up being licensed to other labels.

Sad news, RIP. It was Redman that predicted the coming end of physical media a few years back when discussing his label.

And because a year or so later a newer Special Edition, like Shout puts out that trumps the piddling TT, at least in extras. That’s what I’m learning to my dismay...

A bunch of the Twilight Time discs I got eventually got way better releases elsewhere, mostly by Indicator. I'm mostly okay with them going out of business.

Depends what you're interested in. TT gave you booklet and isolated score track. There are a lot of die hard film score people who probably put that isolated score track above the film. A lot of these titles will probably never see the light of day again given what may/may not happen with Fox catalog.

They were priced right for their business model. They duplicated the limited edition cd soundtrack model targeting collectors exclusively with no retail distribution. This works with cds/music. CD collectors will pay $25 for exclusive cds while mass market cds are $10-15 in stores and Amazon. It doesn't work with video. The collector mentality is less rabid with video than music.

Josh-da-man 11-10-19 06:47 AM

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

Movie soundtrack collectors seem like a fairly tiny niche. Outside of John Williams, or a small handful of films, there's very little interest in these things out there, so a boutique label can put out small print runs of obscure soundtracks at high prices directly to the people who want them.

Twilight Time's model for films always seemed unworkable. They were putting out 3000 copy print runs of everything. A film like Fright Night is probably popular enough with both mainstream audiences and the horror movie collectors to be able to move many times that amount. And it gets the same number of copies printed as some obscure 1960s movie that will be lucky to sell 10% of its print run.

The only Twilight Time movies I bought were the second Fright Night pressing at full price, and 1984, The Believers, and a couple of other titles I can't recall at the moment, for something like $10 each during one of their sales. Fright Night ended up getting a proper loaded SE from Sony and 1984 ended up with Criterion. Can't really complain about 1984 and The Believers, but they fucking hosed me on Fright Night (but at least I didn't double dip on their first barebones edition, too).

Now they're pretty much dead to me because I know that anything they put out worth owning will probably get a better and cheaper release from somewhere else. I couldn't care less about isolated scores.

andicus 11-10-19 02:14 PM

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

I hope they stick around. Sure, some titles are later released by other publishers, but is that a valid criticism of Twilight Time?

And there are certainly titles that don't get released by anyone else.

Since they release niche titles, I still hold out hope that they'll release some of the films I'm waiting for.
