Oh, you know- the usual... as many as they can sell, plus 20-30%.

The Kubrick set also is "Limited".

Loving the "opened" shot of the packaging. For the Kubrick set, Warner dropped the consistensy in disc art and used the old discs instead, which pissed me off. I'm hoping this doesn't happen with North By Northwest.

I'm always a bit weary with Universal releases - I really hope they don't screw these and the horror films up.

The North by Northwest disc is underneath Psycho.

Yeah, the packaging shots also had a Dr. Strangelove disc that matched the others. I even wrote them about this, and they replied that since they were licensing the title they couldn't change the art.

Looks absolutely beautiful. Must-buy, even for 300 dollars.

Love the packaging. Reminds me of the Alien Anthology BD packaging, which I liked.

Is it crazy for me to hope for a $150-200 price when it comes out?

With ClassicFlix listing it at a discounted $229, I've never heard of them so I don't know how competitive their pricing is, but I would hope something better will come along.

Love everything about the packaging aesthetic. But even with great packaging and the fact that Hitchcock is in my top 3 directors of all time, I still am not sure I want to rebuy all of those movies at that steep of a price.

I'm one of those that never bought the Universal sets on DVDs so these are up my alley. $300 sounds a bit steep. I could see myself buying for $150 though. Jaw dropping set.

That set looks gorgeous, but I was able to snag the Masterpiece Collection for a great price on DVD ages ago... and I still haven't watched the majority of the films in it. I think I'll be holding off indefinitely for now.

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread

Somebody made this comment about the forthcoming set on a Facebook thread: "Excellent! Can't wait to see Universal haul out more weak digitally-marred 2k masters they created for DVD years ago arrive on Blu-ray, especially for these classics! They certainly don't deserve new 4k telecine frame-by-frame restorations... :/" Anyone know whether this could be the case? I certainly think I'll wait for detailed reviews before double dipping (more like triple dipping at this point), especially at that proposed price.

I wouldn't pay much attention to idiotic comments like that. It is a pretty substantial price the studio's asking for, so I'd expect they put some time and effort into it. The Psycho and NbNW discs/transfers will be the same, and most likely the same discs altogether.

Ultimately, something's worth what you're willing to pay for it. This will certainly be the best these films look for quite some time. The "limited edition" advertising is probably just a marketing slogan (meaningless unless they give numbers and sellout warnings), you could wait a bit if you wanted.

I know this set is BOUND to be on sale at one point but I really doubt I have the willpower to wait.

that Amazon is under $200 on this but I probably won't have the will power either.

re: The Official Alfred Hitchcock on Blu-ray & UHD Thread

I wonder if this means no WB box set. Either way, I'm thrilled to finally get some catalog 3D titles!

From HTF:
Dial M for Murder, Alfred Hitchock’s suspense classic, was among the first films that helped Warner Bros. introduce 3D in U.S. theatres in the early ‘50s. Now, thanks to advanced Blu-ray™ technology and the tireless efforts of Warner Bros.’ Motion Picture Imaging (MPI) division, Warner Home Video has meticulously and painstakingly restored the original 3D presentation, and, when Dial M for Murder Blu-ray 3D debuts October 9, audiences will finally be able to see the film in their homes as it was originally meant to be seen. A 2D version will also be included for those who have yet to upgrade TVs and players to 3D. Dial M for Murder Blu-ray 3D will be priced at $35.99 SRP, and the order due date is September 4.

All of the DVD extras have been ported over for both discs. The release date for Strangers on a Train is also 10/9. There was also this welcome tidbit:

We’re hoping Dial M for Murder is the first of several classic 3D films to be released, with the long-awaited, much requested “House of Wax” expected next.

I'm screamingly thrilled about those, though I also have to say... that Strangers On a Train cover is an embarrassment (but aren't they all, lately?).

WB used to be pretty dependable in terms of cover art, typically using the original poster design, but lately they've moved into a bland, "modern" style that I can't stand.

At least it looks better than the art for Rebecca, Notorious and Spellbound.

I wish there was a 2D only version of Dial M.
