re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
I gotta say I'm pretty psyched about Highlander 2 if it will have the truly absurd theatrical cut, which hasn't been released on DVD/Blu Ray afaik. I know it says "Renegade Version" right on the cover but, yknow, dare to dream and all. I find it bizarre that they have a movie in Highlander 2 where the only asset is that it's ridiculous and awful and they keep trying to 'fix it' so it makes more sense and is less weird.
The Special Edition was being done just after Lionsgate bought Artisan, which is how they got the republic catalog. I wonder if they thought they owned the film? Seems odd to spend all that money on new effects work to a movie you 1. Don't own full rights to 2. Has a limited audience to sell to.
When Paramount first got the Republic library back they announced a new dvd of the Special Edition, but it never hit stores. From what I heard, Evidently Lionsgate blocked them from releasing it. This movie has at least 4 official versions U.S theatrical, International theatrical, Renegade and Special Edition. There may even be some alternate Tv versions around. It would be nice to have all these in one collection. I understand the issues with the film, but I actually enjoy on some level. The style of the sets and cinematography is pretty cool.

Olive Films have revealed that they will add two more titles to their Blu-ray catalog in early 2014: director Douglas Sirk's Sleep, My Love (1948), starring Claudette Colbert, Robert Cummings, Don Ameche, Rita Johnson, and Raymond Burr, and Anthony Mann's Men in War (1957), starring Aldo Ray, Robert Ryan, Robert Keith, Nehemiah Persoff, and Vic Morrow. The two releases will be available for purchase on April 15th.
Sleep, My Love
Claudette Colbert wakes up in the middle of the night on board a train, but she can't remember how she got there. Danger and suspense ensue. Based on the novel by Leo Rosten.
Men in War
During the Korean War, when their truck breaks down, Lieutenant Benson (Ryan) and his troops find themselves behind enemy lines with no way of contacting their headquarters. In order to survive their dangerous march to safety, Benson and Sergeant Montana (Ray) have no choice but to work alongside each other, despite their differences. Based on the novel by Van Van Praag.

Independent distributors Olive Films have revealed that they will add two more titles to their catalog in early 2014: Sidney Lumet's The Pawnbroker (1964), starring Rod Steiger, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Brock Peters, Thelma Oliver, and Linda Geiser, and Joseph Losey's Stanger on the Prowl (1952), starring Paul Muni, Joan Lorring, Vittorio Manunta, Aldo Silvani, and Luisa Rossi.
Stranger on the Prowl
This two-pronged story concerns a nameless, homeless and rejected man who is looking for a new life, and a young boy from an impoverished family, who is forced to steal when he loses his milk money.
The Pawnbroker
Rod Steiger gives a mesmerizing Oscar nominated performance as the embittered survivor of a Nazi death camp who can't escape the ghosts of his past or the powerful lesson that awaits him in the future. Now a Harlem pawnbroker, Sol Nazerman condemns the dregs of society who pass through his shop and ridicules his idealistic assistant, Ortiz. But when Ortiz, powerfully portrayed by Jaime Sanchez, puts his life on the line for Sol, only then does he learn the ultimate truth about hope and humanity. Under the brilliant direction of Sidney Lumet, Steiger's first starring role in the major leagues is among the finest of his career. Hugely controversial and denounced by everyone including the Catholic Legion of Decency for a taboo-breaking nude scene, this landmark film remains not just powerful entertainment, but a stunning example of how movies can alter our emotions and perceptions forever.

I am puzzled why Olive got the rights to Allan Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold, but not King Solomons Mines, which was the 1st movie.

Michael Ritchie took an "Alan Smithee" credit in that, but it's still fun- and the only time you'll see a rating card in the middle of a movie!

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
I've been posting the threads in the DVD Talk section about King of the Hill since Olive picked up the DVD releases from where Fox left off. I was pleasantly surprised to see the announcement from TVShowsonDVD that the final season is not only coming to DVD but to Blu-ray. It really is a great series and it will be nice to have the one season that was broadcast in HD available on Blu-ray.
Really makes me wish that Olive could pick up the rights to The Simpsons even though the releases would likely be bare bones. I doubt Fox would ever license it out though as its such a big brand for them.

Some great, rare releases there. PHASE IV? Hope it has the newly discovered ending intact. In for all of the horrors, including THE END, THE DEADLY BEES, and PHASE IV. Wonderful news. And, hasn't MANDINGO already been released to Blu?

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread
In response to the many inquiries we’ve received about Saul Bass’ PHASE IV – questions about the ‘lost’ ending and which version is being released on*October 27,*2015 – we can confirm we are releasing the original 1974 Paramount Pictures 84-minute theatrical cut, as it is currently the only version available for licensing.*We have no doubt that fans of the film will be pleased with the Blu-Ray version, its first time available in HD.
Much has been written about PHASE IV since its initial theatrical release in 1974 including the thought-to-be-lost “original” or “expanded” ending of the film that was shown in 2012 following a special presentation of the theatrical release version in Los Angeles by The Cinefamily. It should be noted that before 2012 Saul Bass’ original ending has never been shown theatrically, although select shots can be seen in the original theatrical trailer.

Thanks for the info on PHASE IV. It will so wonderful to have it on BD that I'll forgive the lack of the re-discovered ending. As I've seen that ending, it truly makes the film. At least a (very poor quality) version of it exists on Youtube, which I've archived for safe-keeping.
