I'd love me one in a digibook.

Re: Casablanca 70th Anniversary Edition--Date TBA (pre-order up)

Has it been that long since I saw this on the big screen for the 50th anniversary?

(Technically, the 70th anniversary won't be until the end of this year or the beginning of next year, 2013, depending on which release date you go by. It won the Oscar for Best Picture of 1943, not 1942.)

I finally picked this up on DVD last May from a cheap rack in my supermarket for, like, $6. It was the 2-disc edition that came out in 2009, celebrating, I presume, the 66th anniversary. () I watched it for the History Challenge in June.

This year will mark the 45th anniversary of my first time seeing CASABLANCA--at a revival theater in Manhattan when I was in Junior High. It was my mother's favorite movie and she took me.

Re: Casablanca 70th Anniversary Edition--Date TBA (pre-order up)

I saw the list of extras on another site, and they seem to mirror the previous Blu-ray version. Not sure what the "new" 45 minutes are, but my guessing is they'll just be "fluff"...the commentaries, deleted scenes, outtakes, etc. are all the same.

I was pretty happy with the transfer on my current Blu-ray, so I may hold out until the 75th Anniversary.

So tired of these absurd box sets. I would buy a new remastered bluray of Casablanca on day one, but I'm not spending $50+ on cardboard. It wouldn't bother me if they would release the non-cardboard-junk version at the same time, but they often make me wait an extra year or so.

With Warner, a lot of times Best Buy winds up getting an exclusive version in different packaging, which will later be expanded to wide retail. For example, Citizen Kane in a Digibook, or Ben Hur in a standard case.

I don't know if a separate thread should be created for this, but starting Tuesday (1/31), the DVD of The Magnificent Ambersons will be a stand-alone disc:

Thanks for the heads up. I'm also with the group that thinks Warner needs to cut this shit.

Target will have the deluxe set for $39.99. They also mention another version for $19.99, but no one is sure if it's a bare bones/movie only disc, or if it contains the bonus disc.

Hopefully, that's not just a reference to the $19.99 version currently on the Target Website, which is the barebones edition of the older transfer.

Walmart might get another movie only exclusive like they did with Ben Hur.

Didn't notice it was playing until Thursday night. I wasn't sure if it was digital or a real print. I think it was hosted by TCM.

Re: Casablanca 70th Anniversary Edition--Date TBA (pre-order up)

Disc 2 content, only available in the collector's edition set:

You Must Remember This: The Warner Bros. Story (Disc 2, SD, 289 minutes): The Ultimate Edition's second Blu-ray disc kicks off with a sprawling five-hour documentary from director Richard Schickel and narrator Clint Eastwood which charts the course of the rise and... erm, further rise of one of the largest, most successful studios in Hollywood history. Chapters include "A Rising Power (1923-1937)," "War and Peace (1937-1949)," "Age of Anxiety (1950-1969)," "Starting Over (1970-1990)" and "A Living Tradition (1988-2008)"

The Brothers Warner (Disc 2, HD, 94 minutes): "It is not the challenge of dollars, it is the challenge of ideals and ideas. If the producers of pictures see only the dollar, then I believe those production efforts will fail." Meet Harry Warner and his brothers, the dreamers and businessmen who laid the foundation so many filmmakers and filmfans rest on today. This terrific companion delves further into the building blocks of Warner Brothers and Hollywood as a force of cinematic nature, and highlights how far studios have come and how far they have to go, creatively and financially.

Jack L. Warner: The Last Mogul (Disc 2, SD, 58 minutes): If Harry was the heart of the Warner Bros. machine, Jack was the spirit. Entertainer, stand-up comic, risk-taker, power player and movie mogul, Jack Warner propelled his studio into the future.

I would have prefer a nice digibook, but at least the 1 disc seems to have all the Casablanca related special features.

Why would you want the 2nd disc if you're never going to watch it?
